Brooks Swift ti

But my Specialized Sirrus Triple, biopace, indexed downtube 105, and the rest - I think there are a few here who know and like 'em, lugged steel and rides nicely -- The bike needed a 20th birthday present, after loads of happy miles and multi-country tours So, I just placed an online order to a Brooks Titanium Swift, honey colour with Brooks leather bar tape, which I'll pick up in Yorkshire UK when I go there for a summer holiday in August. I can't wait. I've loved the bike for LOADS of miles, but I've never had a happy saddle on it - and my first serious bike when I was a schoolkid proto racer had a Brooks Swift - I never ever thought about the saddle, even though I rode the same bike for touring, camping, centuries, road races, time trials, as was the way in 1968! |
If it suits you, it will surely look good on the Sirrus. I am trying out a Brooks Swift (steel rail version - more appropriate for my tax bracket) to see if it will be more comfortable than the similar VO Model 6 that I have on my Bridgestone RB-1 now. The VO saddle looks nice and is fine for short rides, but after about 20 miles, it starts working on my sit bones. 35 miles is about all I can do on it. The Swift is a little softer and should take my shape quicker, but I suspect that it will turn out that the real problem is that the saddles are just too narrow for my sit bones. The depressions on the Model 6 are at the outer edge of the seating area, right up against the rivets across the back of the saddle. The Swift is the same size, 150mm wide. As much as I like the way the slimmer profile looks, I think I may need to go back to my proven favorite, the B17, which is 170mm.

I own two of the 80s vintage Specialized Sirrus bikes. One has been left original the other has been upgraded to Ultegra 9 speed brifters. They are fine riding bikes. I'm still using the original saddle on one, but I'm sure yours will appreciate the birthday gift.
