Best name in cycling these days?

Is there a better cycling name these days than Edvard Boasson-Hagen?

I know nothing about the man, and he seems to be an up and coming cyclist, but you have got to love that name on poetic grounds if nothing else.

Thor Hushovd is a good name, too, but I wouldn't name a family member after him.

However, if one of my daughters spawns a son, I'm going to push for naming him Boasson-Hagen. That would be so awesome.

I guess that's it.

I think you are in serious need of a long, long, relaxing ride.

I like that Tyler Farrar has a name that no two people pronounce the same way. Lance said it three different ways in one interview a couple of days ago.

I have a 7 year old daughter and no prospect of adding sons (not that I want any at age 55). I guess that I could have named her "Eddy" when we adopted her in China, but my better half would have surely vetoed that. Besides, her main sport is gymnastics (she's training to compete at level 5 this fall) and not cycling.

I always thought that Jan Ullrich's name started out well.

My personal best pro cyclist name is Belgian Bart Dockx. Held down last place in last years TdF for almost the entire tour. When he retires he can name his bike company Dockxers.

Although the image has been sullied, I remember the dramatic scene where he was urging Landis up the hill in the TdF when he had bonked hard. The ultimate team player.

I like the eastern euro and the former soviet union names. However, Mark Cavendish sort of rolls off my tongue and I like Brook Miller from Team Tibco. Those two paired together could produce one amazing sprinter.

Bradley Wiggins

(To me, he's a hero - and the name seems so 1950s, black and white photos, woollen shorts, brooks saddles and wet hilly rides among northern UK mill towns with a bike club called the Grimethorpe Wheelers)

My youngest son's wife is pregnant. Mrs. Grouch and I had dinner with them last night. We discussed names briefly. I've been lobbying for Thor but she's from an Irish background so I don't think that's going to fly.

Best Name in Swimming: Dutch Olympic Swimmer - Pieter van den Hoogenband

Best, if sung to the tune of Camptown Races:

"Pieter van den Hoogenband. Doo-dah, do-dah".
"Pieter van den Hoogenband. All doo-day day."

That's pretty much it.

Some already picked Hagen. Although they "misspelled" the name.

I kinda like Fabian Cancellara. Italian parents and name but from Switzerland. What a combination. If you close one eye (the good eye) he kinda reminds me of a younger version of my #2 son.
