N-1 (possibly 2)
 

I went back to work today after a week at home recuperating. As I walked in, I was met by a coworker I had loaned my old Trek 970 rigid MTB (Kemo Sabe) to see if he wanted to buy it. He had decided he liked it and handed me cash in the amount we had discussed. The bike is his now.

I'll miss the bike, but I'm glad to see it go to someone who will actually ride it. It is a great old high quality lugged steel frame with a nice mix of decent level components set up for casual road and path riding with a little smooth singletrack on the side. I had reconfigured the bike many times trying to find a way to fit it into my regular riding rotation, but it kept being left behind. Funny thing is than it would probably have been my first choice when I ease back into riding as my injuries heal. But I'll manage.

I'm not quite ready to declare Ribby permanently out of service just yet. I am looking into how it might be repaired and at what cost. We'll just have to see.

Letting a loved one ride away is tough and even tougher considering what you are going through. Keep your spirits and good thoughts high and you shall see your way.:thumb:

My Trek 950 rigid single-track was getting the same neglect from me. It's now the bike of choice for my youngest son (22 yrs old). I feel much better knowing it's not hanging on a hook in the shed.

I think exploring repairs to Ribby won't cost much if anything at all. So, given all the great miles and memories it's probably worth the effort to at least find out if repair is feasible.

I've seen several of your pictures with the 970 in various configurations. I thought you did some great things with it. It is hard to let an old companion go, but if it isn't being used, then I can understand you wanting it to see the light of day and feel the road under it's tires.

Well I'm glad to read you're healed enough to get back to work. Hopefully I'll read soon you're healed and back on the road.
