Everyone says Sakura but actually think "ume" which is my Japanese name - ume is the plum that flowers in February. It's 5 petal and ranges in color from white to deep red. It does look alot like that although it is suppose to be a wild rose...

Beautiful and unique bike.

I had thought he stopped making steel and was doing only carbon fiber. Has he resumed making steel?

It's funny this old thread got resurrected... the bike is doing well... still the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden but quick and responsive. I got my first paint ding just a few months ago and it broke my heart... other than that still happy with the purchase...

especially knowing John Slawta no longer builds steel bikes. Aparently mine was one of this last.

Very impressive! I like the way the builder ghosted his name in the customers paint job. It shows that the customer is the more important part of the bike. Folks will take a closer look, and see his name, but it isn't shouted. Very nice.
BTW, I rode too close to a wide rose, it caught me and pulled me off the bike, they are nasty things. And the make quick work of tires and tubes.

Nice bike. That frame geometry looks very comfortable. I hope you have many years of riding pleasure on your new bike.

Congratulations on a truly beautiful bike.

C'est tres magnifique!

EDIT: I suppose that I should've read the date of the first post. Arggg...well, it is still a beautiful bike.

I considered a Land Shark. I LBS had one on consignment. The quality is amazing. Because it was custom it just wasn't quite right for my dimensions but it went quickly. The paint job really made it stand out

Wow Pam,

This old thread and I still haven't seen you out riding this bike! That gearing would be great for the Ski Lift climb out of Mt.Baldy Village or some of our steep Whittier Hills rides!

Hope to see you soon!

I also think I am going to change out the handlebar tape to black...

the bar tape has probably changed more than once by now,

black is my usual choice since it hides the dirt from wheel changes left on the hands, well enough ..

Great looking bike, Pam.. enjoy! a good friend of mine just purchased a steel bike too, a Jamis. Now you guys have me thinking of one... N + 1.

I agree white handlebar tape will get dirty quickly. My Domane came with white tape. I had it replaced this week with black.

I like your pics of Santa Maria. Now that I have ridden the Spring Solvang double twice I am familiar with Santa Maria and Lompoc.
