Well, after a 20+ day hiatus I actually rode a bike today.

I took some time off from work to prepare for and then to move two daughters back into school. It was a pretty intense schedule but we managed to get everyone where they needed to be, with their stuff, on time. In the process we put over 2000 miles on our Van.

So now that all that lovely excitement is behind us once again, I can slowly slip back into my normal routine that I like to call 'My Life'.

Phase one...... commute via bike everywhere I can. I rode the Trek to work this morning in wonderful 04:00 a.m. empty street darkness. That was the easy part. Last night I must have spent close to 45 minutes gathering up all the needed equipment such as lights, tool kit, spare tubes (oops, I forgot my pump...oh well!), helmet, riding gloves, lock and on and on. Goodness but somehow I had spread that stuff all over. Some was in the house and some was in the garage. It's amazing how I manage to loose track of my gear so easily over the span of just a few weeks!

Phase two....recreational rides. That will be an issue as the wife is still having ambulatory issues and depends entirely on me to get her around town. Oh well. I know I'll be able to squeeze in some rides each week, they will just be a bit shorter than in the past.

Ahhhh, life is good again.

Glad to hear you're back on the bike, COD. Understand the spousal obligations and family commitments, but I gotta say -- you're a better man than me, I couldn't go that long without a ride! Last time I did that was when I broke the c-bone, was off for 43 days, but then, I was off WORK and everything for that time, too. An occasional walk, other than that, I was forced to be a couch anchor.

That change from summer to winter riding has just reminded me- Where are the sealskinz gloves and socks- and I must dig out the tights and the Fleece for the cool days- and better check the Goretex out to ensure its still waterproof after 12 years. And I know where the main lights are- but the small rear bracket to mount two rear lamps on one bike?

I think your 45 minutes must have been done at breakneck speed to find all that lot. I have no idea where the wife hid the gloves back in March.

Thanks for sharing, I feel your pride in the college young'uns as well as the throatlump in leaving 'em

But's whats all this about mislaying stuff? Isn't the COD also sufficiently OCD to have stored and labelled everything by category, manufacturer and date of purchase, on labelled shelves and referenced to a library box of index cards?

Cool days = finally being able to ride in mid-afternoon without suffering heat stroke where I live (south Louisiana).
