Ordered a new Gunnar frame
 

I finally pulled the trigger. I ordered a new Gunnar frame with the intention of building with pretty good components. Actually I now have most of the components ready. The real task is waiting the four weeks for the frame to be ready.

I have not owned a Gunnar. Any experienced Gunnar owners out there?

No, but a lightweight steel frame is always a winner in my book and I've read some very good things about Gunnar frames. I hope you enjoy yours! :thumb:

I have about 22,000 miles on mine. It's really a good all-around frame, pretty good on rough roads and very stable at speed. It's about 4 pounds for the size 62 frame.

Never heard of them either but I checked them out after reading your post. This might be the way to go for me. I'm on a 64 cm steel frame now but it's a bit long in the reach. Let us know how the build goes with pictures please. You know the saying around here...pictures or it didn't happen.

I died hard over a Gunnar. I live not to far from where they are and still think about going over to take a look. Pics a must.

I'm a huge fan of Gunnar; was on the short list a year ago when I got my Boedie. I always chat up Gunnar owners when I run into them; they're always happy w/the bikes.

One of the nice things about Gunnar is that they are reasonably priced as is; but if you want to add custom goodies or something fancy like a Waterford paint job or Waterford steel fork, you can just tack it onto the order.

Which model are you getting, by the way?

Gunnar has a great fit tool on their website to help you see how any of their standard geometry frames will fit you at your seat height and various stem sizes.

I'm enjoying my Custom Gunnar Sport - smoother than the aluminum hybrid I was riding before, even with much smaller tires on the Gunnar (25 vs. 35). I haven't had another road bike (since my youth) to compare it with, but feel it is a good value and not -too- heavy. My finished bike came in at about 21 pounds.

One of my goals is to build a bike from the frame up, lots of good information here and on the Gunnar site. thanks.

Been riding my Gunnar Street Dog for almost ten years now. Had it built up by Harris Cyclery in October, 2000. With the advice of the Great Sheldon Brown, I picked out some nice components.

Welcome aboard. Just be advised: Continuous riding will lead to continuous riding. I think you'll enjoy your Gunnar. I certainly do.

I put a carbon fork on mine, and I use 23mm tires.

I ordered the Roadie. The size is 60 CM in Battleship Gray. I have purchased an Edge 2.0 Carbon Fiber fork along with a Ultegra 6700 groupo.

I nearly bought a Gunnar Crosshairs a few months ago and still might someday. Impressive details on their website. Look forward to pics.

You're in for a treat! I have two Gunnars: a Roadie and a Crosshairs, and they're both wonderful bikes and a tremendous value. Unfortunately, they're also both up for sale: after having achilles problems and getting a professional fit this summer, my saddle's up 4cm (!) from where it was, and both frames are on the small side now. Anybody looking for a seriously sweet road or cx/sport/touring frame in 62cm, metallic royal blue?

I have already bought a set of Mavic Ksyrium SL wheels. I will use Vittoria Diamante Pro tires, which I have already purchased. Waiting for the frame to be delivered in about 3 more weeks.

Still undecided on the handle bar. I have an adequate aluminum bar I may stay with. I will use a 3 T stem.

This really does sound like a great ride shaping up.

I've made my decisions related to handle bars based more on width, reach and drop vs material. Generally (the exception being my touring bike) I like 42s with short reach and shallow drop. Have you used the Bittoria Diamante Pros before? What kind of mileage and puncture resistance do they provide?

I'm a big fan of the Nitto Noodle bars.
