Just name the date and I'll be on it. Don't know how your weather fares over there but I reckon all of us "Failures" should do penance and train before hand. Starting this Sunday and I'll be in training---Beforehand if the Pie is available- but won't be able to ride till then.

I'm saving my pie ride for Denver in a week. I know it is a bit off schedule. But, then I've never been noted for conformity.

I completed my first Century ride (miles, not km) on the 18th in Arthur, IL. Near perfect weather, tolerable winds, mostly flat route between corn, soybeans, alfalfa and the like. My 50+ brain that was so busy trying to remember to do all the right things, that I forgot to stop for post-ride nourishment at an Amish bakery and get a superb, freshly baked, warm, blueberry pie. <sob>

Didn't know they had fresh blueberries in IL. Or, was it just the pie was fresh?

I've got an old friend who does the Arthur ride every year (this year it coincided with his birthday). I'd love to get over to ride it with him, but the drive from Indy would have me getting up at about 4:00 AM or earlier, and my days of doing that sort of thing are long behind me. ;)

I agree! We should all train by eating MORE pie!

I was dreaming of the fresh pie. Central Illinois has precious few fresh blueberries.
Drive over the night before, as we did from south suburban Chicago. Found a low key B&B close enough to ride to the start, so grandma got to sleep in and shop Arthur while I rode. The bill came to about a $/mile.
So, might I see you there next year?

You well might. It occurred to me just today that there are any number of friends we could stay with in the Chambana area. Some in Monticello, in fact, and that would be an easy drive to the start. Don't know why I hadn't put those particular 2s together to get that particular 4. Duh.

Pie Ride Report
 

My pie ride was on our normal Friday ride from Brookville to Arcanum, OH. Round-trip is 30 miles. Terrain is really flat, you can see the water tower in Arcanum from 6 miles out. Usually have lunch at Smith’s Coffee House or Miller’s Tavern. Today was Miller’s Tavern, great food and super people, and fabulous blackberry pie with ice cream.

Looks like there is some SERIOUS pie- eating going on there!:lol:

You are absolutely right. Funny thing, after I got my piece of pie and ice cream, it seems that some of the others including Miss Beverly needed a piece of pie also. It was good pie.

Oh yeah...blackberry pie, my second favorite after blueberry (NJ blueberries, of course).
