Pie ride failure

Woke up early this morning to a phone call. Daughter No2 is in ER. After a lot of tests it would appear she has diabetes. She had what the medical staff called a Hypo and the tests confirmed she has diabetes. 6 hours later and we went home but back tomorrow morning for a few more tests then Monday it is the consultant.

So My ride at the London leg of the Tour of Britain was cancelled and all I did when I got home was sit in the garden and wait for the next phone call. It never came. Still had Pie but without the ride so Tomorrow morning- subject to no problems after the hospital visit- I will be out for Pie.

First and most important I offer my best wishes for your daughter's health and well being.

As far as the Pie Ride is concerned......
If it was up to me, but it isn't, I would say have a piece of pie and consider it 'Mission Accomplished'.

Being summoned to the ER to be with one's stricken daughter or son is far more excruciating than a mere bike ride! You can relax later with the bike ride part.

So have a slice of pie my good man, you have earned it.

Sorry about your problems. Looks like we may have to try again next year.

Aww, that sucks. I guess the only good thing about it is that diabetes is treatable and well understood. Best wishes to you and your daughter!

I hope your daughter's diabetes was diagnosed in the early stages. Finding a great diabetic educator is probably as important as finding a good physician. The educator will most likely help in giving her a more optimistic outlook along with necessary information.

I started with oral meds after I was diagnosed. With a change in lifestyle and exercise, I was able to get off the medications. I have controlled my diabetes for more than a decade with diet and exercise. Bicycling is my prescription.

I am assuming that your daughter has type II which can be controlled. Type I is a more difficult issue, but there is hope of finding a cure. If she has Type II, I hope she can eventually discontinue medications. The side effects are troublesome. I felt a significant lack of energy with the drugs and had to worry about low blood glucose levels. The drugs also make weight loss more difficult.

I rode 30 miles today....you can have 15 of them and that piece of pie:) In fact I didn't have any pie after the ride so maybe you could eat a piece for me.

Many thanks for the wishes for my daughter. She had no signs of diabetes before this "Hypo" so it has come as a shock. No idea of how serious so a bit of a way to go yet.

Problem is that daughter No 1 is due her baby any day now and the wife has to stay on Baby sitting role when the Call comes.

But today- Both daughters are catered for in the urgency stakes so definitely a day for a ride. 7.30am and a beautifull sky of Blue- No wind and the phone is charged up. If anything happens Both daughters will be going to Eastbourne- Our local Hospital- so it looks like a ride to Fusciardi's for an early Pie stop. Breakfast on the beach for me.
