I like a nice torpedo or robusto the evening after a day of riding. Ashton's, Greycliffe and Alec Bradley are favorites, but any quality smoke is fine by me.

I like to have some cheese, Dubliner or Sharp cheddar, some cut up fruit and grapes and either a red wine or Pale Ale. To me that is a great celebration of a good ride.

What say the other 50+?

I smoke on my rides...yes...Black and milds...and I drink and ride too at times....I do what I do...and you do what you do....and if you do not like what I do...then that is your problem and not mine!

Use to have an occasional cigar, along with scotch.
Use to made wine too. Up to 150 bottles per year. And drank it all with my friends.

Now I spend my money on biking and camping stuff.

Still like sharp cheese, cut up fruit, coffee and chocolate.

I quit smoking at age 40, 28 years ago. I've never had a desire to smoke since then. Your second paragraph sounds a lot more like me, however. When it comes to beer and wine, I can stay with the "A" group...even on tough climbs.

Denver's post reminds me of an old joke -

Older man: "I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't chase women, I don't dance to loud music. Tomorrow I celebrate my 85th birthday."

You Americans, just remember that we still trade with Cuba and therefore have Cuban cigars available for those who still want them while visiting Canada. Just don't try to take them home with you, apparently that can cause a kerfuffle at the border.

I used to enjoy a nice cigar once in a while, mostly while camping or cooking a hog. I don't think I'll be smoking them again after the bout with throat cancer because it would probably irritate my throat. BTW, neither I nor any of my doctors think that the 3 or 4 cigars a year that I used to smoke were a factor in causing my cancer.

A good IPA or two is a good salute to a special ride.

I used to do a lot of international business. In my travels, many of the Asians, Europeans and Central and South Americans enjoyed a cigar after dinner. Although, I am not a cigar smoker, I would join in. I liked the small Cubans. The large ones were just to strong for me.

I was in Honduras and a General (military) threw a party at his house. They had some great cigars. It was very bad form not to have a cigar with him.

And yes, they go very well with red wine.

Smoking cigars struck me as a male bonding ritual and frequently used to celebrate the making of successful business.

When I quit smoking, I knew it meant not smoking anything, or I'd be back to the two packs a day habit. So, tobacco free for 35+ years. Now I don't even like being places where anyone is smoking anything.

20+ years ago, it was OK for patients, visitors, staff to smoke in hospitals.



Tobacco smoke is gone from hospitals and many other places but we still have a long way to go, baby!

I do loves me a decent cigar. I like a nice bourbon, and I really like many different beer choices. My favorite beer? A Spotted Cow only found in WI.

Like Hermes, I see an occasional cigar as a male bonding thingie. My college roommate lives nearby and we get together over a cigar now and then. Rocky Patels often. But I'm no connoiseur. I usually go for the mild to medium blend. Often drink a Coke with it.

It's 33 years plus for me since I quit, and I, like you, have resisted the temptation to smoke an occasional cigar for exactly the same reason.
I must say though, that while I detest the smell of cigarette smoke, the aroma of a good cigar is quite pleasing.

Then you need a new Doctor as the ones you have are idiots. People who do not smoke, people who do not drink, they do not get throat cancer. End of discussion. Rationalize away but the cause is obvious.

It's amazing how the anti-smoking zealots even feel like nagging on a thread about it. Yes, we know smoking is bad for us, we can read the warning labels. Maybe bikes should come with warning labels: "The Surgeon General has determined that riding this machine on a road can be hazardous to your health, especially when sucking the emissions from the vehicles that just barely missed you. If one of them should actually hit you, you could wind up dead."

Point is, we all make our choices, so while some folks need to HTFU, others need to STFU.

I haven't made wine, but I do make my own beer and mead. I like almost all styles of beer, except for the lambics, but I do love most Belgian ales more than most other styles.

I'm gonna try and find some Cigar City Brewing Co. beers asap.

Meanwhile, I'm not too label conscious with cigars. JR Ultimate Cabinet series represent a really good value for great taste and price. But give me a nice Padron Anniversario, or an Ashton VSG, or a Tatuaje La Verite, yummmm.
