Is this off-topic?

Ummm....trying to think of a way to argue that this is relevant to cycling.

I guess I'll leave it up to you to decide.

BluesDawg 11-11-10 05:15 AM

Bicycles and beer both start with a "b".

cyclinfool 11-11-10 06:30 AM

It's not

That's going to take a heck of a lot of thinking. The only possible connection I can think of is that perhaps if you extrapolate evolution, cycling represents a higher evolutionary plane. One past beer.

It's a well-produced if lame commercial. :thumb:

Guiness isn't beer, it's just sold in the beer section.
My wife uses it as a beer additive, sorta like the tequila in her lime juice.

Well, Guinness does sponsor a cycling team.

They also sponsor a horse-surfing team:

Beer and cycling go together.

Beer is never off-topic.

Hermes 11-11-10 10:30 AM

Yes, unless we want to have a thread posting miscellaneous videos of clever commercials.

Guinness is nice, but it's highly overrated. I find it's too mild. I prefer a dark stout where they've slightly burnt the malt. Guinness is not "smoky" enough. Mais, a chacun a son gout...

Depends on the type. Canned stuff is not good- On Draught and it is not bad but far too cold. Bottled at Ambient temp and pretty good but if you want the best-- Drink it in Ireland. Trust them to keep the good stuff for them selves.

But I would not like it as a Preride drink. Post ride and I'll take guinness in any form.

Good point. Or, it could be a thread about Sammy Davis, Jr. (who was singing "Rhythm of Life" from Sweet Charity in the first ad above).

Here's the original:

Shifty 11-11-10 11:38 AM

Carbon fiber bikes evolved from steel, so I definitely see the connection!

Daspydyr 11-11-10 01:02 PM

Brings up an interesting point, can items "evolve" without the guiding hand of a craftsman? Now, can beer find its way without outside help?

I like em all and say, lets all lift a tall cold one to the maker of all good things, Steel, Carbon Fiber and Hops. Benge Boy does find the fun stuff.

The Weak Link 11-11-10 04:14 PM

Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.

The Weak Link 11-11-10 04:16 PM

Just watched to OP video. Was the music by Devo by chance?

See the Sammy Davis Jr. clip above - that's the original.

Said Ben Franklin.

Cheers all! I'm off to Cancun for a week and anticipate consuming a few brews during my absence from riding.

Hope you are going to do some Interval training with that. Get too intensive and you could be ill for a while.

Tequila shots are good interval training for those longer beer sessions.

overthehillmedi 11-12-10 11:08 AM

Allegheny, One wants to do that training whilst in the pool, then you don't havw to worry about Scottogo's problem.

ecrider 11-12-10 06:15 PM

Beer is an integral part of my carbohydrate recovery session after a long ride. Here's a beer commercial that's always been my favorite...
