25th anniversary coming up

My wife and I will celebrate 25 years of marriage in a few weeks. We don’t have special plans nor will we throw any lavish parties. But I would like the wife to know that she is the greatest and that she is more important than anything.

Any wise do & don’t concerning the passing of a milestone in our relationship?

I would suggest a brand new Dyson vacuum cleaner as an anniversary present!!

It will last forever, and will continually remind you of your recent divorce.

And, I should add

Happy Anniversary.

I'm beginning to realize that posting here is a sign of desperation. However, I am above the "enjoy the vacuum" level of geekyness.

Congratulations Michael. That is a noteworthy achievement in this day and age.
I only made it to 21 years the first time around. Now I'm 7 years into my second try. Pretty sure I got it right this time.

Thank you Dan. My wife has made it possible. She is bright with a sense of humor. As she likes to describe herself: "I'm a Saint"!

For our 25th I surprised her by taking her back to the inn where we spent our wedding night. I lucked out as they had a package deal that included an ocean view room with fireplace, welcome basket with a nice bottle of wine, dinner (with wine) in their dining room and breakfast in their coffee shop all for little more than their normal room rate. We arrived early, left late and had a great time.

As for vacuums as gifts. I gave my wife a new vacuum for her birthday last year and she loves it.

Congrats on 25 years, that is a lot in todays quick divorce world. Advice, well I'd say when you get a good one hold on as long as you can. My wife and I celebrated 42 years in September and I can't for the life of me think of how she has put up with me for that long.

We never got around to celebrating out 25th which happened last year. We never even went out for dinner or anything. Maybe we'll do something nice for the 30th.

Congratulations to you and your wife Michael!
My 25th would've been next year, but the end came last month.

The sentiment in your post choked me up a little because it is so sweet.

I second the inn suggestion. One of my favorite anniversaries we stayed at a mountain inn and went hiking in the morning.
Do- say those special words from your post . . women need to hear them.
Don't- give any household gifts.

Have a wonderful time!

We celebrated our 25th anniversary last year and spent a couple of nights in a B&B just an hour and a half away. Like the others said, you can often find a package deal, and one night would be fine, too.

This year we got a couple of Starbucks lattes to go and watched a movie together, and that was great, too. I think the key is you taking the time to come up with a plan for something special for the two of you whether it be going somewhere or something special at home. Just caring enough to plan something and not leaving it up to your spouse shows a lot in my book! Congratulations and enjoy! You are very blessed in a time when all too few couples reach such a milestone.

(I have been holding off posting on this forum because I officially don't qualify for about another 6 weeks, but close enough! I'll introduce myself some other time, don't want to hijack this sweet thread.)

Congratulations! We hit 30 years at the start of this month. In today's world such a commitment is becoming more and more rare. My hat's off to the two of you!

Congratulations. We celebrated our 25th six years ago by taking a six-day bike tour on the Olympic Peninsula, Victoria BC and the San Juan Islands staying in Bed and Breakfasts all the way.
Best wishes!

The only advise I can offer is something you should have done 24 years ago. And that is not to make a fuss of Wedding anniversaries.

For some reason- Our anniversary is not something me or the wife bother about. Both of us seem to remember it a few days afterwards but that is about it. But 25 years is something to mark. When our 25th cane up- I was going to take the wife back to Paris where we took our honeymoon. Then a couple of weeks before I had a heart attack and we both had other things to worry about.

But forget the wifes birthday and I am in deep trouble.

Going on 36 years I believe or 35 can't remember, holy crap I just did the math and we're going on 37 we stopped celebrating years ago. Last year I did take her out to eat and bought her a new I Pod and stereo. She said for once I got her something she wanted, so I figure I better quit while I was ahead so this year I'm buying myself a new set of golf clubs and giving her a big hug and tell her she finally bought something I wanted. Congratulations on the 25 year mark.

Ok, so who gives me the right to reply here?

Nothing, except that you posted - so you get what you get!

May I ask - when was the last time you spoke to her, face to face and sweetly, and said what's in your 3rd sentence?

Oh and thereafter, buy her a trip with Explore World Wide, South of France, Hidden Provence, Sts Marie de la Mer to Avignon ( or wherever they're routing this year), ride it her pace and stop for coffee before she suggests

Have a great anniversary. Cherish.

My wife and I had already planned an Italy trip which coincided with our 25th (2009), but we both agreed to not do anything special. I had thought about an article in our local paper, or a few other things, but planning got complicated, so bought a card to bring with me to Italy.

My wife's birthday is 5/4. Our anniversary is 5/5 and my birthday is 5/6 as side note.

Our itinerary for those dates in Umbria were vague and we ended up on her birthday at an inn that's a restored monastery north of Perugia. Wonderful place, with a restaurant that was unfortunately closed 5/4 and 5/5, but they promised to send us someplace nice. The young lady that checked us in notices our birthdays on our passports and made a comment at which point we tell her our anniversary is 5/5. Dinner for my wife's birthday turns out to be wonderful ( as is every dinner in Italy, seemingly).

On 5/5 they tell us the restaurant will be open at the Inn, 7:30PM. "Oh, OK" we think, agree and appear, to find they have brought in their chef and opened up to serve us, and only us, a special 25th anniversary dinner. Beef from their farm in the valley, wine from their vineyard in Tuscany, local vegetables, and a specially printed menu with a Happy 25th Anniversary on the cover.

A totally ad-hoc affair that we could not possibly have planned and that became an occasion that will never be forgotten. My toast was a promise to return for our 50th.

Oh and as BTW, did I mention I love Italy ?. Cannot imagine why.

We just did a week on Hawaii to celebrate our 25th... It was nice in spite of the heavy rains. Somehow going to a nice restaurant each evening just seemed to be the icing on the cake.

Happy Anniversary

For our 25th we did something that was special and private. We've just done the dinner thing for all the rest. But, now we have the same challenge you do; what to do for our 50th which will happen in early summer next year.
