I am considering the 305 or the 500, possibly in 2011. Do those of you using Garmin computers download or keep the workouts?

Just got the Garmin 800 bundle today. It's on the bike but cold and snow showers are keeping me in today. Hope to try it out next week. Upgrading from a Forerunner 305.

I have the 500 and upload my data to Garmin's site after every ride. You can also download a summary of your activities and open it with a spreadsheet. I tried the standalone version of their software, but it's not that good. Terrible interface.

.... and if you want great mapping, try uploading at ridewithgps.com. I like their map display best. It has an elevation graph that you can mouse over, and it shows where you are on the course as well. You can also drag/highlight a section of that graph, and it gives you elevation metrics for just that section.

I used the 800 on the century ride I did a couple weeks ago. It worked flawlessly. I'll be getting a new powertap wireless to replace my wired version so I can get power displayed and downloaded from the Garmin. I brought it down last weekend with me to use the GPS routing feature but our ride was sleeted out. It will take me several good rides to organize the displays to what I want but I'm happy with how it looks while riding. The info is easy to read.

I ride an Edge 705 and found a lot of useful info in Garmin's official Edge forums:
