East Coast Ride
I was just going to post a picture of my ride in the Did You Ride Today thread, but then I stopped by the Mixing Road & Mountain Biking thread and saw all the nice West Coast pictures of green hills, people wearing bike shorts and dry roads and the contrast between my ride and that ride made me chuckle, so I figured I'd give everybody a taste of a East Coast ride.
So, straight from southern NH, where it is currently 22*, but sunny, with about 36" of snow on the ground and 12" due Wed, today's ride...
The snow shoes & x-c skis have packed down the snow nicely, but you do have to be careful to stay on the track because the snow is deep on either side!

Wow. Nice ride, missjean. It looks a lot like that around here too.
I would love to go riding in the snow but after falling on some icy steps in December and fracturing six bones, my inner chicken has kept me off the ice and snow.

Nice photos. It looks like that around here to (outside of Philadelphia). And, we're to get what's coming your way tomorrow. I'm so excited; I can hardly stand it. - not.

Forecast is for snow, freezing rain, snow, freezing rain, and then just bitter cold.

I know a lot of folks are sick of the snow, but I really like it (sorry
) it reminds me of the winters I remember as a kid. My daughter calls me a snowhole when ever I say that tho.

Hi Missjean,
Had a group of neighbors over yesterday for skiing/snowshoeing/fondue/spot(s) of wine. Got the wax right and the hills were a breeze both up and down. MTN biking tonight and already planning for the "snow day" on Wednesday. Sometimes it is good to be near the NH coast, short as it may be.

It was unexpectedly warm on Saturday, 44F / 6C and sunny. That actually seemed pretty nice. I'm getting cold adapted, I guess.
I hadn't been riding outdoors since the last "warm" day on Jan 1. It was good to get out.

Beautiful pictures, MissJean. I like fresh snow, too, but am not courageous enough to ride in it. This year the heavy snows have worked to my advantage. I have a part time job, an internship, and three evening classes with lots of homework this semester. If we were having warm, sunny days right now, I'd be tempted to toss aside my books and go for a ride. With this weather, I should have no problem staying at the top of my class!

Missjean, I live in Rhode Island but ski at Mt. Wachusett near the Mass, N. Hampshire line. Just got home a short while ago from a day of skiing. Although I'm well hooked on cycling, I still enjoy the winters and snow sports and I'm glad to see you are out flailing about in the snow also. Today was 8 degrees F when I arrives at the ski lodge at 7:30 AM but the air was still and the temps were comfortable. It was pretty much a bluebird day and Mt. Monodnoch, just over the border in N. Hampshire, stood out like a big fat ice cream cone. It was an awesome day. How awesome? Awesomely awesome, that's how. And, as you know, we will be getting even more snow tomorrow and Wed. I'm very happy bordering on cartwheels.
