Happy Easter
Not seen any mention of it on 50+ so I presume it is not a holiday you celebrate much in America. Today is "Good Friday" and is a Public holiday and traditional breakfast coming up of Hot Cross Buns. When I was younger these were only available at Easter but they are so good that they are now available all year round. But like most trditions- if it is a good one we get greedy and want it all the time.
Easter is also the traditional time for getting out in the garden and mowing the lawn or starting the projects you have been thinking of over the winter. I have my garden sorted but one neighbour is digging out for a new patio- one is clearing his front garden for a weed free life in future and one had just bought a cottage in France and is over there "Renovating" it. I have been lumbered as My daughter has decided to wreck the garden that has taken 3 years to get right and build a Patio that is going to be 40 ft X 30ft with a sunken bit in the middle so a lot of digging to be done. I will go round shortly and tell them they are doing it all wrong and get thrown out or buried under the spoil heap. Either way doesn't matter today is Ride day for me. Haven't had Pie on the seafront for ages. So Happy Easter to you all and hope you get riding. |
Enjoy the ride. Today I took off work and am spending it with my daughter - no riding. The only pretty day we have had all week and will probably have well into next week.
|
I have the day off from work and I'm going out of town for a MTB ride. The yard needs a lot of attention and I'm doing my best to ignore it for as long as I can. Big family meal coming Sunday afternoon at my mother's house after they all get back from church.
|
Had off for a few days. Will mow and trim today. Worked cleaning up the woods a little. Lots of limbs down to deal with. Split some fire wood for next season. Will have a big family gathering here on Sunday. Weather could be better. Hopefully a ride tomorrow and Sunday morning.

. . . . . Hot, cross bunnies. (sorry) ;) |
Stapfam,
Not a federal or state holiday, as said, but still important on Monica and my calender. Noon mass at our Episcopal church and a special Easter Passion Play tonight. We will attend sunrise mass on Sunday and then a family lunch with my mum and hopefully my brother. Our son is home for the weekend from seminary and will be with us too. Hope all is well for everyone from BF this weekend, God Bless to all. Bill |
Hey,
Happy Easter to all you Christians from us atheists, Jews, Muslims, Taoists, Buddhists, etc... Personally, I'll take any excuse to have a day off and eat chocolate bunnies and eggs.:D |
Happy Easter to you, Stapfam!
I'll be out this afternoon buying jellybeans and chocolate bunnies for my kids and flowers for my mother, Tonight, my husband is taking me out for a lovely seafood dinner (it was either that or stay home and have fishsticks.):D Easter Sunday will be dinner at my mom's and what my son calls, "Birthday-palooza" as most of us have birthdays around now. I love this time of year, when everything is green and growing and all the spring flowers are blooming. It is truly beautiful, restorative, and a great time for riding. Happy Easter to all! |
Happy Easter from one of those atheist Buddhists. The Christian holidays provide a lot of comforting tradition, even if the underlying religious meaning is absent, and I fondly remember my Mom always greeting us on Easter Sunday with "He is risen."
Not many cars in the parking lot here at work, and the stock markets are closed; not sure about the banks today. We are having friends over for dinner Sunday, and I'm making a rib roast. Maybe I'll add Yorkshire pudding in your honor, Stapfam, and make it a true English meal. Neighbors are having an egg hunt that we'll also attend. |

Just to make you all Jealous--We have Monday off aswell. Long Weekend in other words---Then Friday we have another National Holiday because someone is getting Hitched. 3 day working week next week- that is if you have not taken it as Annual leave as I have.
When my two girls were young we used to have an Easter Egg hunt in the garden. Various clues to find one and the next clue. Used to send them all over the neighbours gardens-up trees- digging out the pile of washing in their rooms and anywhere else we could find. My Daughter has asked if we can have a Hunt tomorrow for the GD and her friend. So today has been spent making the garden toddler safe. Wife has been in the kitchen baking and decorating a Simnel Cake--A rich Fruit cake with Marzipan inside and a Marzipan topping and decorated with eleven chocolate eggs on it to symbolize the apostles. No pic yet as it is still in the oven. I'll give a report on taste and suitability as an energy food tomorrow. And to top it all- The wife was in the pool today for the first time this year. |

Easter factoid: the latest possible date Easter can fall on is April 25, so this year is pretty unusual at the 24th. The abbreviated version for the method of picking the date is the first sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox, but sometimes it gets a little tricky - like if the full moon happens in different days of different time zones, or if the equinox falls on a Sunday but it's still Saturday in some parts of the world; that can throw things off.

#1 says "I made the most embarassing Freudian slip during Easter dinner with my mother yesterday." #2 says "Oh my yes, sometimes that can be so embarassing... what happened?" #1 says "Well I MEANT to say 'please pass the hot cross buns.' but out of my mouth came the words... 'You've ruined my life YOU B¡TCH!" |
If the weather cooperates, I plan to attend the Pedalmentalist Easter Service this Sunday afternoon. It's a 35 mile service.
|
This year folks around here are still playing hockey on their pools.:o

Happy Easter to all. I did manage to get in a Good Friday ride, then my son came over this evening with fried fish, shrimp, fries and Hush puppies. We had a nice dinner and watched the Two Time defending World Champion Lakers take care of the Hornets. After Mass on Sunday going over to my sister's home for Easter Dinner with most of my eight brothers and sisters, nephews and nices. He is indeed risen.

From last Thursday till tomorrow morning we will have sung plainchant (which I nearly mistyped Palinchant), Allegri, Bach, Byrd, Connolly, Durufle, Gabrieli, Gelineau, GF Handel, Jacobus Gallus (Jacob Handl), Howard, Kirkpatrick, Palestrina, Tallis, and Victoria.
I'm sure he's risen, but by tomorrow I'll be horizontal. |
Don't forget to eat the chocolate bunny's ears first, they're the best part. :D

Happy Easter to all (although I feel slightly uneasy about wishing more happiness to those who find it in the biting of bunny ocular and auditory organs, albeit analogue)

The only way- as proved by Ferne the GD-is to put the whole bunny in the mouth at once-chew it up and spit it into grandma's hand. Bit messy but Ferne enjoyed it.
But Simnel cake---- http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=199021 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=199020 Very rich fruit cake with plenty of Marzipan within it and then a topping of Marzipan with Marzipan eggs to augment the chocolate eggs as decoration. Have to admit that this even defeated me- I could only manage 2 slices. |
