Too many bikes and an unhappy wife - wow, that's a tough decision - you got to decide whether or not to give her alimony! However, recalling your wife and her looks, it is an even tougher decision.

hey - I split some wood today too with my little "fireside friend" hatchet. Lucky me also painted two ceilings.

By hand or by powered splitter? Even by a powered splitter, it would still be a workout.

Pete Seeger is 93 and states that one thing that keeps him fit is cutting wood. He does it by hand, or so it's been stated.

Right. All by hand, with this maul:

I've used a number of different splitting axes, and that's the best (6 pound?).

I do use a chainsaw to cut it. All free wood from a neighbor who cut down a lot of big trees.

Yes, I think splitting wood is a good, primal type exercise. It's mostly upper body, so it's a good complement to riding. There have been some times when I've thought I'm too old for it, but right now I think I'll continue for years.

60 pushups in a row, lots of lower weight bench press (reduced today to 155 lbs for increased reps), curls, 40 more pu's in a row, stretching.

Needed to take a day off the bike so I went for a hike this morning in Great Smoky Mtn NP. I hiked 5.5 miles to Cliff Tops on Mt LeConte, 2850' up then back down for a total of 11 miles and 3000' total in 5 hours. Beautiful morning for a hike.

I wanted a rest after a fast 26 miles yesterday, so I spent a good portion of the morning clearing out the weeds and low brush in a part of the yard that nobody ever sees. I go at it a couple of times a year, and I swear, this year I'm going to put something down to keep it all from growing back. I need to landscape it and reclaim it as useful yard.

I think it was harder than my usual non riding/hiking workout. I'm on vacation right now but I'm ready to back to work next week so I can rest.

With all of the rain we had yesterday, the bike lane along the road for my morning ride was in pretty rough shape, so, I ran. 5k, 31:41.. not a great time, but ...

Another three hours of wood splitting -- I've almost filled this section of the shed.

Wood splitting is #1 for feeling good afterwards, followed by strength training, surfing, then biking.

That is REALLY impressive. Do you heat with wood - cook - hot water boiler??

We heat almost exclusively with wood -- wood stove in the living room. And all of that is free -- I cut up some trees that were felled to build a new house.

It's nice to have some exercise with such a tangible reward.
