Robbie Tunes had adopted me and supplied me with C&V jewels.. I am lovin it!!!
You bang 60 this morning.. You rockin too..
BTW, another reason the wife is mad because I took the back deck too. On the back deck, I have a roman chair, workout bench, pull up bar, dumbells, barbell. And what is so great about the home workout bit, I can do it whenever I want.. Yeah, I am preaching to the choir!!

By hand or by powered splitter? Even by a powered splitter, it would still be a workout.
Pete Seeger is 93 and states that one thing that keeps him fit is cutting wood. He does it by hand, or so it's been stated.

I've used a number of different splitting axes, and that's the best (6 pound?).
I do use a chainsaw to cut it. All free wood from a neighbor who cut down a lot of big trees.

Yes, I think splitting wood is a good, primal type exercise. It's mostly upper body, so it's a good complement to riding. There have been some times when I've thought I'm too old for it, but right now I think I'll continue for years.

Needed to take a day off the bike so I went for a hike this morning in Great Smoky Mtn NP. I hiked 5.5 miles to Cliff Tops on Mt LeConte, 2850' up then back down for a total of 11 miles and 3000' total in 5 hours. Beautiful morning for a hike.

I wanted a rest after a fast 26 miles yesterday, so I spent a good portion of the morning clearing out the weeds and low brush in a part of the yard that nobody ever sees. I go at it a couple of times a year, and I swear, this year I'm going to put something down to keep it all from growing back. I need to landscape it and reclaim it as useful yard.
I think it was harder than my usual non riding/hiking workout. I'm on vacation right now but I'm ready to back to work next week so I can rest.

Another three hours of wood splitting -- I've almost filled this section of the shed.

Wood splitting is #1 for feeling good afterwards, followed by strength training, surfing, then biking.

We heat almost exclusively with wood -- wood stove in the living room. And all of that is free -- I cut up some trees that were felled to build a new house.

It's nice to have some exercise with such a tangible reward.

A beautiful hike up Long Canyon trail near Taos Ski Valley today. The Aspens are turning and the weather is perfect.
