Hello,

Welcome, teachme. Don't be shy about posting, or asking any questions you might have about what the heck happened to cycling in the intervening years. ;)

az_cyclist 05-13-11 11:02 AM

Welcome teachme. Cycling is a great way to get fit!

Two critical questions.

Have you had your colonoscopy yet?

What kind of pie do you like?

Welcome teachme,

Yes, it does get a bit funny here from time to time but for the most part its great information sharing, adventure sharing and very helpful bike mechanics posts. I think you'll like it here!

Hiya Teach. You're under no obligation to be precise about how often, how many miles or how fast you ride. Feel free to express your fantasies with respect to the above ride details.

Welcome--

But what bike?-Then you will get advice from those that ride your type of bike-or have done in the past.

What type of riding do you intend to do?- Saves the downhill offroader giving you advice on the 100 mile trip you are planning (Unless you are a nutter and plan on doing the 100 miles offroad)

And how was your first ride? Got over the butt ache yet? Got the bike dialled in? Did you manage the hills ok?

Schwinn 700c hybrid. My butt is fine, I've been working out a little with a spinning class at the local gym. The bike is not dialed in. Trying to figure out how to make the adjustments needed. Will do it this weekend/

Well, you need to think about blueberry as your preferred pie for our annual Pie ride the 3rd Saturday in September. 15 miles minimum with a stop for a piece of (hopefully, blueberry) pie along the way. Some folks cheat with apple and the like, but the TRUE pie riders know that blueberry (topped by ice cream) is the best!!

Better start practicing for the ride. And I don't mean the bicycle riding part.

Welcome. Being new here myself, you'll find lots of valuable info about bikes, riding, things to wear, things to buy, more things to buy and even more things to buy. Once you have the bike, then you get G.A.S. (gear aquisition syndrome). Got to have lots of gear! Never enough. ;-)

Enjoy!

stapfam 05-13-11 02:10 PM

Get the PIE ride date in your diary. It is BIG on this forum so do get training. And as Dnvrfox stated- it is not the bike ride you have to train for.

We don't have Blueberry over here so I have to make do with fruits of the forest. But be carefull. Extra milage because you got greedy and has 2 slices will play havoc with the training.

teachme 05-13-11 02:17 PM

Hmmm... Thanks for the advice. Pie ride, huh? Never met a piece of pie I didn't like. :) And I think I have a touch of that GAS you speak of.

Hey Denver! Ever been to Door County, Wisconsin?

They serve cherry pie up there along with high butterfat ice cream. Yum! I'm sure you will be able to find a cherry pie up there to rival your blueberry, but it may take a while for you to adequately sample all of the offerings. There's also some pretty good bicycle riding between restaurants.

I've been by Door County on the way to a vacation - oh about 33 years ago at Sunset Lake near Eagle River. But, I missed the Cheery Cherry pie. Yes, it would take a lot of tasting to determine if Cherry pie matches Blueberry pie. Hmmm!! I'll check with the boss.

Right now we are packing for a 9 day cruise from NY headed to Canada. Those ship pies are pretty good, also.

Anyone explain the initiation assessment owed to each of the current 50+ participants by new persons? Completely voluntary but you will be shunned until you have fulfilled your obligation. paypal works for me.
Welcome and please remember that it's never the wrong time to consider a recumbent bicycle.
