When I was a kid I wore white sneakers. When I was a young man I wore dirty white sneakers and "desert boots" sometimes. Most of my life I have dressed fairly conservatively. Still do for the most part. However, for some unknown reason I get a kick out of wearing the colorful jersey of the bike club I joined. And, as an added note this endless dreary spring has me longing for things bright yellow. I have spent a good amount of time looking for brightly colored tires for a mixte I am restoring.

Whatever you do, please don't wear white sneakers with a suit to your daughter/son's wedding like my FIL did. All anyone notices in the pictures are his shoes. 17 years later and I still cringe.

I wear just plain ole black cycling shoes. My wife says I should wear white shoes which in her opinion are cooler in sticky muggy FL. But I figure that I will ride with these shoes as long as they last.

Brothers - don't do it. I went to Alaska last year to visit my AK sweetie - the day before I flew up she called to review my packing, and specifically said "no white shoes - it screams Cheechako." She caught me just in the nick of time... and I haven't worn the white NB shoes since except to work in the yard. Black everything now. It's not how you feel, boys, it's how you look.

It's got nothing to do with age, it's a Baptist thing. Look for the matching white belt to be sure.

In business, most all of the people I need to impress, I communicate with over the Internet and cell phones. In doing films, the director makes all the decisions on what I'm going to wear anyway - and I have to turn most of it back in when I'm finished in my parts of the movie.

On my bike, I wear what's comfortable. That's sandals (or white sneakers), black shorts and some sort of sleeveless T-shirt.

The best times of all are alone with my woman. And then, I'm not wearing anything. No problems!

I'm waiting for someone to start selling "wingtip" biking shoes. I'll match those suckers up with black socks and a pair of bermuda shorts for local rides.

How about penny-loafer biking shoes ... or maybe inflation means put a quarter in them instead.

I'm really surprised you all are having trouble figurinig out the connection between elderly and white shoes. I just read a paper on this subject the other day... It's A.I.S.D.P.B.S. (Age Induced Systemically Differentiated Pat Boone Syndrome) It's a horribe condition, that I hope they find a cure for soon (he says looking down at his white shoes)
