What did youi weigh at your "peak" and.....

......what do you weigh now? I think about what I weighed at my "best" playing football in college (180 lbs) and after Basic at Ft. Jackson (178 lbs) and wonder if I can get back to that weight for cycling. Over the winter I've lost 8 lbs. and am now 190 lbs. But, damn it sure is hard losing weight. I keep thinking that if I could get down to that 180 lbs life would be easier on the hills around here.

cyclinfool 06-04-11 06:58 AM

Age 19 - Freshman year in college: 235lbs
Age 54 - Desk Jockey: 167lbs
Age 38 - Peak of fitness: 158lbs
My goal for this summer is to get to 160, but if I don't make it there is always next summer...

Over 50 weight loss is hard. Counting calories and cutting out counter productive calories (like alcohol) is important. I found that one night a week after a hard evening ride if I have a high protein bar (like a Cliff Builder Bar) and skip dinner it helps dramatically. At my peak weight (age 19), when I decided to loose weight I got on the bike and rode every day and cut back on carbs and lost 70 lbs in 10 weeks all while taking heavy college coarse load of math and science and making the deans list - no way could I do any of that now at age 54.

I think my "best" is yet to come. ;)

What!? Beer is counterproductive?

Boxed at 9 stone in the Marines And that was the Featherweight class. 126 lbs in other words and I was always at the 126 when I boxed. Also at 126lbs when I played Rugby for the corps but that hurt when hit by 240lbs of Animal. 20 years ago and and I had risen to 140lbs but now weigh in at 150. Just cant seem to lose the 5lbs that would put me at a better cycling wieight but can always gain 5lbs if I don't take care.

Graduation in '75 I weighed 135lbs and did many hundreds of miles on my Motobecane Mirage. Good memories.

At the age of 40 I weighed 179 competing in powerlifting competitions (very little fat, mostly muscle)

Last winter as a wrestling coach I weighed 195, wasnt lifting because our local gym closed. I hate carrying fat around.

This spring it was an all out assault on body weight and a renewed vigor to ride my first century this summer. Body weight is now at 181. Muscle is being revived which means an offset in weight but can say that the waistline is much better and my jorts are almost falling off.

I weigh just over 150lbs, same as in my senior year of high school. My ideal weight is about 5 lbs lower, and I have been there or lower at various times during my adult life.

Ridinmurray 06-04-11 11:57 AM

Freshman year in high school 202.
Senior year 197
At age 46 weighed in at 264. Things had to change.
Changed my habits & ride 50 to 75 miles per Week & weigh in at 207.

I hit 220 before coming down with colon cancer. Got down to 182 a year after surgeries, chemos, and a lot of riding. Drifted back up to 195 now, which is OK. When I got down to 182, people were wondering if my cancer was back. But at that point I was the fastest on the bike I've ever been. My average speed is directly related to my weight.

Trsnrtr 06-04-11 12:35 PM

I raced as a Cat 2 in the '80s at 145-150#. I still ride about 7500-8500 miles a year and have every year. I weighed 221 this morning. It takes more than cycling to keep weight off. :)

Looigi 06-04-11 02:14 PM

Peak was 154 as a college undergrad. Now I'm 156. There have been a few peak weights, the highest was 245+.

ItsJustAHill 06-04-11 02:28 PM

Highest was at age 40: 215-220.
When I was running/lifting 6 days a week a few years ago I was into the low 150s.
175-180 right now. It does get harder to keep it off as the years go by.

AzTallRider 06-04-11 03:15 PM

College was around 180-185
Heaviest was about 230
Now at 198, and have been threatened with divorce if I lose more.

stringbreaker 06-04-11 03:55 PM

Peak was 204 lbs about 4 years ago. I was 125 coming out of high school in 1971. Dropped to 168 lbs after my peak and now I vary between 175 and 185 I'm at 182 lbs as of yesterday. Winter weight coming off.

rubic 06-04-11 04:00 PM

When I graduated high school in '67 I weighed 175. I ran track all of those years. At my "peak" marathoning days in the 1980s, I weighed in the 178 to 185 range. This is at 6'2". Now at 62 and somewhat, umm, past my peak, I weigh around 184. Of course I have been known to bloat up to 198+ at times.

doctor j 06-04-11 04:29 PM

225 pounds max. in my early 50's. When I weighed today, I was at 159 pounds. 6' 2".

At age 23 I was 170 lbs and I looked a little emaciated. After a few years of marriage, and a culinary trip to Italy, I weighted in at 230 lbs at age 30. I stayed at that weight for most of my adult life.

At age 48 I was 248 and needed a change. I started cycling and I lost 40 lbs in 2 years. I'm now between 200 and 215 lbs and should continue to lose weight.

Great clip.

Paul01 06-04-11 05:48 PM

148 when I wrestled in high school.

150s in college

140s the summer I was 24 and raced (poorly).

About180 now down from 225 a few years ago and heading to 170.

hikeandbike 06-04-11 06:29 PM

About 160 in 69 as a high school grad, got up to 170 a couple of times an about 145 now. It is tougher to drop after 60.

I find this sort of analysis useless unless height is published along with the weights.

Me?

5'11" tall

Best weight while engaged in a physical activity (field hockey at age 17 in 1972) 154lb (70kg).

Worst weight (not engaged in anything, big drinker, big smoker in 1995) 217lbs (99kg)

Best and most comfortable cycling weight (long distance events, touring, commuting 2001-2009) 187lbs (85kg)

Current weight (and working to get back down to 187/85 or under) 200lbs (91kg)

PAlt 06-05-11 12:35 PM

Height: 5' 11"
Highest weight: 235lbs. @ age 28
Lowest weight: 142lbs. @ age 37 (going thru a divorce and having come back to cycling)

I used to be 6', and when I was, one summer - was about 26, so it would have been about 1964-5 - I worked for the US Forest Service high up in the Sierra mountains with an International 1 ton 4 wheel drive to get me around, up to the lookouts, etc. Apparently, they forgot to put springs on that truck when it was manufactured, and by the end of the summer, I was about 155, and wore a 32 inch waist.

I ain't telling about right now - 45 years later and shrunken a bit - though!! :)

crtreedude 06-05-11 01:37 PM

I am 6'1" and now 191.5 Back when I graduated high school I weighed 175, but was two inches shorter. My highest weight, about 10+ years ago, was 270 lbs.
