Tool time

With Father's Day coming up it's sale time on tools. Time to stock up.

I ordered my father's day present. A pair of SPD-SL cleat covers (no one in town has them - only Look and Speedplay) and a few other misc items. Very exciting, right?

I've told my family that all I want for Father's Day is for them to do what they're told, clean up their messes, and respect their mother. Everything else is fluff... PG

But surely, since this is the 50+. you already have access to a fist sized rock, duct tape and used sump oil?

Here in the UK- Fathers Day is going to be a shock for certain riders. The London to Brighton Bike ride. 56 miles and for many of the competitors it will be their first distance ride. I used to do it but 33,000 riders with 30,000 of them walking up slopes-And I do mean slopes- is not fun.

A Group I know is doing it and only 1 regular cyclist amonst them. All doing it on mountain bikes-probably the best bike to do it on due to the slower speed when you have the accident- and only two have slicks on. The non regular riders have been out for the last two weeks doing a regular 15 miles at a time. Boy are they going to be tired by the finish.

But Fathers Day for me? I might get a card if I am lucky from my two daughters as there is No Daughters Day for me to reciprocate on.

My two sons created "Brothers' Day" many years ago. They felt it unfair that Mom and Dad had their own days but there was nothing for them. They've been celebrating it annully with gifts and special events every since. The date moves around to fit their schedules but is usually some time in July.

As for Father's Day, they're all asking my what I want and I'm having a tough time coming up with anything (OK, I can think of a lot of things but they are way more $$$ than they are able to spend on Dad).

I'm asking for a Di2 Tarmac. I'm expecting a kiss and a laugh.

Speaking of tools, I just got a disc brake truing stand (bolts onto my Park wheel truing stand) and a disc brake straightening tool, and now I can fix the disc brakes on my wife's bikes (she has 3 with discs, one hydraulic, 2 cable operated) whenever she complains!

Re: Father's day, I get a phone call from each of the kids, and that's fine with me. I've got too much "stuff" already!
