What is the benefit of the belt drive? Can it match a roller chain's efficiency? The only other belt drive I have seen is the Strida.

Nice looking ride. Of course I'm partial to that color combination; it's the same as my daily commuter. I've never ridden a belt drive system. I'll be curious to know what you think of it after a few hundred miles.

Hi there, I have an identical bike to this but last years model with over 2800 miles on it. I would assume this one handles and rides the same. I really enjoy riding it, however when its really humid or moisture in the air, the belt wants to seem to squeek etc.. No really issue, just annoying. But with that aside.no issues what so ever.

Nice. I have the grey/orange version, I also put drop bars on it, wrapped in orange bar tape, with cross brake levers rather than road levers. It is one heckuva smooth ride and gets a ton of compliments. I do get belt skipping about once every 100 miles, and it got squeaky once for about a day, trouble-free otherwise. I did remove the chain/belt guard, I saw no reason to have it there.

I like it so much, I'm actually replacing it with the District Carbon. :)

There has been a lot of interest in belt drive on a winter cycling mailing list to which I belong, and one member has posted his results. The benefits are that a chainguard is not required, it never needs lubrication, and it is free from corrosion, and "chain stretch". The member reports that the efficiency seems comparable to that of a roller chain and that the pedaling action is smoother. However, he also reports that the belt can clog when used in snow and ice, although Gates (wo make the belts) claims to have a fix for this. I think that this may be a technology worth watching.

Trekmogul - how do you like it so far? How is it different from chain drive? It certainly is a good looking bike.

Paul

Hey guys -- GUYS...

I love the bikes (I ride SS myself) but the videos are boring and uninformative. How about high res pics of the drive side, with maybe closeups of the drive components? - ;)

Pretty sweet! I got mine ever so slightly used (actually it was dusty from hanging on the wall) but the original owner replaced some bits and got rid of the originals. I bought the bike sans handlebars, brake levers, saddle and pedals, but with a Bontrager XXX Lite stem. I'm putting on some Ritchey WCS Carbon Evo bars, and a Selle Italia SLC Flow saddle. Can't decide whether to go for the Campy Record Carbon brake levers, or stick with the Cane Creek compacts that I have sitting in the parts bin. Anyway, I'm still waiting on the new parts, so the bike isn't rideable for me yet. It's killing to me see it sit there!

So what's the deal here? You drop by every year or so just to bump some of your old threads? Fascinating.
