I've been practicing intensely...so intensely that I've worn out a set of Schwalbe Marathon tires and outgrown all of my clothes!!! :eek:

Last year my cafe' was closed on the 3rd Saturday in September for remodeling, and I ended up at McD's with a cherry pie and ice cream. Not exactly what was intended when we wrote the rules many years ago.

It doesn't count if there are no pictures.

Just the other day I was dreaming about pie.

I put it on my calendar but my recent history of participating in pie day rides hasn't been good.

Worse, our congress has been wasting time by pretending to negotiate over the debt limit ceiling rather than addressing the shortage of decent pie-ride venus.

Pie - yes

Doesn't have to be just fruit, though. Steak and kiddeley will do nicely, as will chick and leak. (Capers and Tarragon)

And as for Retrogrouch - I think he ought to have a detailed google around 'Rognons de Boeuf en Croute', which I'm cooking now!. It's all about the mustard

What are the specifics of a pie ride? Of course other than the obvious. Minimum distance?Pie type/ ect.?

15 miles with a pie at a cafe somewhere along the way or at the end. Traditionally, it has been blueberry, but those folks across the pond on that little island don't seem to have blueberries, so other types are allowed.

That's the date of the Bob Galloway Memorial Amish Country Bicycle Tour in Arthur, IL, which I'm planning to ride. I'm sure there will be ample opportunities for pie throughout the day.

A Man after my own taste. Filet de Boeuf en Croute come a close 3rd but Home made Steak and kidney is by far the best "Savoury" Pie to be had.

If I don't like it, though, I can be mercyless. I've only eaten chitlins once and they taste exactly like the name sounds.

Harvest season comes a little later here in Southern California (mid-October seems about peak pie season), but we get some great apple pies at that time (Julian, east of San Diego, and Oak Glen, about 100 miles east of Los Angeles). I'll take my fresh apple pie with hot custard sauce and a sprinkle of nutmeg. Yum!!!

I think I can manage this task. As a matter of fact my wife baked a Blueberry pie this past Saturday and I had a piece of it about two hours ago with vanilla ice cream, before I noticed this Thread. Wow I do love to practice for an event.

Having grown up going to school in Julian in the early 50's, I would approve of this deviation from the blueberry guidelines.

Irma's is still open and the pie is still good! I think I'll double up and incorporate my b-day ride into that same day!

I'm afraid I still use IE6 and Vista, which both have an offal filter. Sorry

#But chittlins, I believe are a bit close to what the French call Andouillettes - and though I'm Euro enough to admire and enjoy the notion of 'nose to tail eating' as a non-vegetation - both of those are a bit too far south on the animal for me.

I'm practicing by consuming all available flavors of 'tastykake' pies during my training rides. Not quite like homemade but better than most of the mass-market pies. They even come in little 'pie-pans'.

Everywhere I go, I see French, Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Greek, Puerto Rican, Cajun, Creole, German etc. restaurants, but I can't recall once ever seeing a British restaurant. I think I'm beginning to understand why. ;)
