Pain

I've decided that I prefer my pain self-induced. I can control the amount, the frequency, and how it's delivered.

Today I went for a quick spin to work the kinks out of my legs after a hard effort yesterday, in preparation for a pre-race ride tomorrow. A couple miles from home a bee tried to fly into my mouth. I closed my mouth in time and was rewarded by a sting on the lower lip.

I've been stung on the arm, leg, abdomen, and chesticle region, and none of them hurt like this one. Ice is fine until it wears off. And the swelling isn't Angelina Jolie-worthy, either. :notamused:

I'll be glad when this is done.

I'm not sure if it was a bee or wasp, but I have had whatever it was hit my bottom lip on a 45km/h downhill, and it hurt a lot, but just as bad was the very bitter taste!

This is why one should never, ever give any lip to a stinging insect.

Two weeks ago I was hit in the face by a bee that was momentarily lodged under a helmet strap. I was then partially stung but the discomfort only lasted for 15 minutes. Apparently, the bee thought I was some sort of sour puss and flew off.

Hope it feels better soon:)

At least my bee waited for me in my car last weekend. We had finished riding and were on our way to a restaurant when I pulled down my visor to discover a wasp. I immediately pulled over, rolled down the window and started flailing my arms around to shoo it out. A friend following me said he had no idea what I was doing but it sure looked funny.

I carry Afterbite with me.

Basically, ammonia in the Afterbite breaks down the proteins in the sting and minimizes the severity of the bite.

The quicker you get it on, the more effect it has in terms of minimizing the reaction.

I got nailed twice in the same day a couple of weeks ago.

Yellowjacket got me in the ankle while I was stopped chatting.

Then about 30 minutes later, riding - felt something stinging my leg, brushed away a hornet/wasp.

Both times put Afterbite on immediately, and did several more applications to the hornet sting.

The yellowjacket sting was reduced to about like a mosquito bite - the wasp - was minimized but spread over a large area.

Had I not had the Afterbite, I would have had to call my wife to pick me up after the wasp sting, really got nailed on that one.
