training for my longest ride/rides so far

I'm really concerned about completeing a ride I have entered on Oct, 8th and 9th. 75 miles each day. Hope I make it!

How far have you ridden on one day? Two days in a row?

The farthest I have ridden is 50 miles one day and 20 recovery miles the next.

If you can gradually increase the max first day miles and the 'recovery' second day miles you should be in good shape.
Not a race, right? Aiming to peak on the actual ride weekend is one strategy.

Yeah, training with 15 early morning miles Monday thru Friday and working on my distance on the weekends. I think I will approach the ride each day as five fifteen mile rides. There will be a rest-stop every 12 to 15 miles along the route so I can eat and drink and rest for 10 minutes or so before resuming the ride. I think this will help me psychologically.

75 miles each day for two days is not too bad a distance but try get a few consecutive rides in of 50 miles a day. Problem on the second day will be getting the body moving so take the start a bit steady and ease yourself in.

75 x 2 will be a pain in the butt. Stand on your pedals to give it a rest and slide to the back of your seat to change the pressure points.

Good luck, and enjoy the experience.

I take it that you are doing a charity ride like an MS 150. Been there, done that. I was in the same boat you are when I did my first one and I was worried about finishing. It actually went a lot better than I thought and before I knew it, I was going across the finish line for the first's days ride. What helps is to find a rider that is on your level of riding and turn him into your riding buddy. The conversation takes your mind off the ride and makes it more enjoyable. Two of my team mates became my riding buddies for the first ride I did. I also listened to music the entire time, but you can't do it with headphones or earbuds as they are not allowed on these rides. Anyway, I think that you will do well. Just keep riding and don't think about the miles you need to do and "Just Do It."

I suspect Teachme is worried about the heat more than anything else?

I have to say Texas has been hotter than ... well just about anywhere. hope by Oct time frame those 100+ days will be fewer. All my friends out there are suffering in the heat. It's been brutal bar none. Just keep riding and extend your miles by that October ride it will be much easier.

I do not live in Texas and can only imagine what it's like. Been 90s+ here forever and humid along with that. In Atlanta the Orange level smog alert days have been running constantly this summer. ugh.

I think keeping appropriately fueled and hydrated will make a big difference. Aim for around 200 calories an hour and 12 to 16 oz of water or energy drink and hour even if you're not hungry or thirsty.
