A warrior's drink
Dr Oz is very enthusiastic over beets and cranberries.
Trader Joes has cranberry juice with cranberry pulp in it, nice and tart. They also have purple beet and carrot juice. When you mix the two together, they taste good. I use a little more cranberry than beet. Not expensive, and supposedly super good for you. |
Chocolate milk!
|
I like beets, carrots and cranberrys! Mix em all together and you get a beetacrancarrot juice.
|
Carrot juice- Hate it---Cranberry leaves a funny taste in my mouth
and Take it you mean Beetroot-the red thing. Fine when pickled in vinegar but not otherwise. So if that is a warriors drink- I must be a wimp. |
I'm starting to lean the chocolate milk direction myself. It seems all these sports(recovery) drinks try to end up with what is in milk anyway...
Kinda seems like it should have all the stuff we need when you sit back and have a ......................DUH.............. Moment. Hi ya momma :) (raises and lowers eyebrows) |

BTW: been eating dried cranberries (not those Craisin things) for years and beets are for salads or as a veggie with lunch or supper. |
Milk--Lactose- Lactic acid.
Just a connection I heard in that the pro riders lay off milk on the Tours. Don't know if there is any truth in it but If I am riding it is Black coffee for me. |
I've been juicing with fresh fruit and vegetables for years. I stopped buying commercial products because I can make concoctions much more to my liking than anything I can buy. But if I couldn't make my own, I buy commercial products instead of not drinking them.

Improved blood flow has tons of benefits. |
How does it taste with rum in it?

Tower Root Beer! Good stuff, the way Root Beer should be. Drank it as a youngster. Back in the 60s, they used to sell it in long necked, brown bottles. So picture, if you will, a group of young males, standing around their hi-riser bikes, circa 1966. All drinking from these long necked brown bottles. Just the thing for confusing the heck out of nervous moms. :innocent:
That said, I just may try the TJ's cranberry juice. Supposed to be good for what ales you. Another dandy: Ocean Spray "Crangrape". Dam tasty, especially after a long ride, or even a short one. Real sugar in this stuff, not that corn syrup crud. |
I have read several articles where they say drinking regular milk is excellent for recovering after a workout. In this house, we go through milk like water. I love it when the milk is really cold.

I grew up in the town where Ocean Spray used to be headquartered, They had cold cranberry juice in a drink fountain in the lobby. I remember all us neighborhood kids stopping for free drinks almost every day. For the past fifteen years or so I've been into blueberry juice.

Margaritas continues to be my drink of choice.
|
My favorite juice recipe. It seems to work as an energizer and a drink that replenishes at the end of a hard ride. All items juiced in my Breville Juicer:
4 carrots 2 apples 1/2 inch of fresh ginger root 1/2 cup blueberries 1/2 cup strawberries 1/2 cup red raspberries |

Just a connection I heard in that the pro riders lay off milk on the Tours. Don't know if there is any truth in it but If I am riding it is Black coffee for me. Under "structures and reactions". Lactose is hydrolysed to glucose and galactose, isomerised in alkaline solution to lactulose, and catalytically hydrogenated to the corresponding polyhydric alcohol, lactitol. As for me, I take whatever fruit is around and blend it into a smoothie. I drink some before my morning ride then finish the rest with breakfast after. |
Would it be an Amazon drink if the women drank it? :)
Cranberry juice and dried cranberries – yum! Beets – pickled beet salad – yum! (But, if I eat enough beets I notice my pee has a distinct red tinge, which can be disturbing.) Carrots – raw and cold – yum! Donno if I’d like them all juiced together tho. Chocolate milk – I was part of a 4 woman team for a 24 hours mtb race four years ago. We brought all sorts of food to eat, but at 4 o’clock in the morning trying to refuel for my next 8 mile lap, chocolate milk was the only thing I could force down. |
