Still riding :-) - Three down and three to go

I posted #3 to my website but forgot to post anything here. I've been busy and it takes me longer to get things done these days.

The side effects are still controlled with OTC medications and I hope it can remain that way for the last three treatments. I've found it doesn't take too long for the fatigue to set in. I did a bike ride of 13 miles last week and it took me two days to fully recover:( Won't be doing that again.

The biggest change with this session has been the taste of food:
---anything with salt taste like someone dumped a box of salt on it
---drinks with artificial sweeteners taste like syrup
---cottage cheese tastes like crap and it was always one of my favorites
---the list of foods that taste okay gets smaller each day:mad:

My sister, aunt and I are heading out to Morehead, KY for a couple days this coming week. We'll be picking up some indoor plants that belonged to her son and transporting them back to Ohio. He was an avid gardener and we want to get some of the plants from his yard before the house goes on the market. Believe me a few plants won't be missed:)

The last chemo treatment should be November 9 and the doctor indicated they generally start the radiation 3-4 weeks later. I'm going to push them for 3 weeks so I can get this phase of my life completed and start the road to recovery:)

Beverly,
Thanks for sharing again. Sorry your ride last week took so much out of you. Have a great trip with your family. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Beverly,
I volunteer weekly with cancer patients.
What a positive, courageous group of people!

Only think as far as the recovery from the last treatment.
And remember radiation is not as bad as chemo.

Hang in there Beverly. What you are experiencing is so much like what Mrs. Mono went through some years back. If the nausea is under control I hope the last few rounds of chemo are much better as your body gets adjusted to the meds (well, as much as it can). The radiation will be much better all around, except for the every day thing. Best wishes.

Thanks for the update. My wife says not to eat any of your favorite foods while doing the chemo. It took her five years before she could eat some of them again, because of the change in taste she experienced with chemo. Things she didn't eat during that time she had no problems with. Hang in there.

Hang in there. Taking my best friend for cancer surgery Tuesday. He will be in the hospital for a week and then I will be cooking for him. I may be doing little more than making jello. Don't know yet.
This is his fifth cancer and second time for chemo. No radiation planned this time.

Your positive attitude is one of the keys to beating cancer. You are doing great with the continued exercise. Thankfully your taste in food is temporary. I had throat cancer as did you cousin. The radiaton wasted my taste buds and the change is permanent, but I am cancer free and that is what is important.

Bev, I've posted on your link and hope you have been receiving my messages there. I hope you enjoy your trip to Kentucky.

Bev,
Good to read an update and that you are coming along well. Sorry to read about the food taste complications. My mother had these too. Time overcame most of them for her. I still have you on my prayer list and will look forward to updates as you feel like letting us know how things are going. As Denver said, I am in awe of your positive attitude and outlook.

Bill
