Hi Everyone! I can't believe I'm back.
It has been a long time since I participated in the 50+ thread and I am happy to see that a number of people that I was accustomed to reading their stuff are still here.
I had moved to Memphis, Tn (that was a disaster) and then back to California (it has its own challenges). I had sold my touring bike and my mountain bike and have been without a bike for a couple of years.
After jogging to stay in shape and help keep the weight down I developed a severe pain in the right hip. Since all of my medical treatment is through the VA as a Disabled Veteran means I have to get in line and wait. They were able to schedule me in for some physical therapy in two months. That is a long way off when you are in pain. It is kind of what I might expect from socialized medicine and a system that has become over burdened since the downturn in the economy. Believe it or not, it is not because of the young men and women returning from their stint in the two sand boxes!
I broke down and went to Performance Bike and picked out a 29'r on sale. I am really excited about starting to ride again and in particular excited about mountain biking.
Just wanted to say hello to all of you that are still here participating in the 50+ thread. I look forward to joining you and sharing my experience of getting back on ke and on the trail.

Do they treat broken bones sooner? Glad to see you back. Do we have more squrriles here in Socal or in Tenn? Cycling may fix that hip before your therapy treatment. Happy riding.

Thanks LAriverRat! TN has far more of the acorn eating tree living types. CA has far more of the human type! LOL!
I figured I'ld do away with the impact injury and get a bike and stay in shape and heal myself. I think they might treat a broken bone quicker, but I hope I don't have a reason to find out.

Your squrrile has a nice target on his chest for my Big Cat 1200 pellet rifle. To bad it's against the law in California to use a pellet gun on our cute little critters that live in the tree.

Oh yeah! The reason we can't hunt squirrels here (S. California) is that they are carriers of "The Plague". Got to admit that the "Superman" emblem makes for a nice target.

Not a lot has changed around here. Welcome back, and yes, we still require pics of that 29er!

Don't mince words
Welcome back to CA and cycling! Hope the bike helps your hip. Oh, and we need pics, or it didn't happen.

Yes, welcome back and I hope the hip stops complaining as mine did. Some inner core strengthening exercises daily for maybe three months did it for me.

Welcome back, Fred! I've wondered how you are and if you'll ever be back. I haven't been here as much and have lost track of things here.
I hope you'll enjoy many happy miles on your bike.
