Books for Masters Cyclists?
Any comments on books for Masters cyclists.
I have read Joe Friels' - seems a bit dated. Have also read Chris Carmichael's on the 'time crunched cyslists' - a good book. Anything else? |
Faster, Better Stronger by Heiden and Testa http://www.fasterbetterstronger.com/
I do not find that masters cyclists per se need anything different than anyone else. I have used 3 different coaches and learned a lot from each one. Learning about cycling is much like an apprenticeship. Much of the trade is handed down by journeymen. One can read theory but much of becoming a better cyclist occurs when a qualified 3rd party observes the cyclists and makes suggestions and corrections to technique, training methods, weight loss programs, nutrition and etc based upon skilled observation and a data base of other masters cyclists and how one compares to ones peers. |
Serious Cycling by Edmund R Burke, 2nd Edition (2002).
A friend loaned me the first edition which I read cover to cover, and I was delighted to find that there was a second edition when I searched Amazon where I bought two copies, one for my bookshelf, and another for the lounge area at my LBS. Even though I don't aspire to be a hard-core racer, the training, nutrition, planning and racing information has helped me improve my riding and enjoyment of the sport, even though I'm only serious about being a good casual cyclist. |
I got a lot of very good information from this book. It has parts the overall cyclist and master aged. Easy read and in terms that most any one can understand.
