Surgery scheduled
Well, saw the orthopedic surgeon today and we decided to do surgery on my right-hand for my trigger finger(middle finger) and carpal tunnel at the same time. Neither will impact how long recovery time will be. My surgery is scheduled for December 30th. Don't have a time yet. I could've scheduled it for Dec 22nd, but didn't want that right before Christmas. Doc says I can't ride the bike for about 3 weeks. I could ride a stationary right away if I wanted to, but I'm not purchasing a stationary just for 3 weeks. I want the money to go for Defy 1 a bit later. I'll just do a lot of walking in that time period. So, I'll be riding up until Dec 29th and then pick it up again around the end of January.

Yeah, as Teachme says, good luck with the surgery. They've come a long way with this surgery. Hope you get the relief you need.

I had carpal tunnel release surgery after a wrist break caused the nerve to get pinched. It made a huge difference.

I had hand surgery last spring. I switched to running while recovering. It made me appreciate what hard work running is.

A few words of advice, get yourself some pull on pants ala sweats, pullover shirts and slip-on shoes. It's awlful awkward doing up Zippers, buttons and tieing laces one handed along with a few other chores.

Thanks for the wishes and suggestions. I could've had the carpal tunnel surgery done back in the '90s, but it subsided and only became more bothersome since taking up biking. I want to keep biking. Plus, the Doc stated that the procedure has come quite a ways since the mid '90s...faster recovery, less intrusive surgery, better techniques.

So you only have around a month to get out and ride to be ready for the defy
When you get the bike- get the LBS to set the stem a bit high for you initially. It can always be lowered but if they cut the stem for a low position- It can be awkward to raise.
Good luck and ride till the OP- then just take any exercise possible. I do not run but fast walking is just as good.

I plan on doing fast walking during recovery. Walking, at a fast pace, is how I lost 67 lbs of the ≈ 100lbs I have lost. I may also do some stair step exercise a few times a week to keep up the cardio and endurance. Not sure I'll run as that has a harsh impact on joints and my knees ache at times. I'll likely, if I feel finances will work, get the Defy in March or April.
