120+ mph winds in Colorado - not a day for bicycling
Summit County - 120+ mph. Ski lifts shut down.
In the front range - 100 mph My car almost got blown off the road and my windshield got damaged from blowing gravel. NOT a good day for bicycling. |
Not a good day for anything....
|
We were headed to the mountains to hike, but turned around. A man near Boulder was impaled and killed by a tree limb coming through his car windshield.
|
That doesn't sound like an ordinary winter windstorm - is that typical for you guys? Take care...
|
Be sure to do your Trans Am before that tree limb / SUV / etc with your name on it gets you.
"According to his wife, James Baker-Jarvis was working on a book related to his work and also planned on biking across America at some point". http://www.dailycamera.com/weather/ci_19651201 |
At least you guys in the Colorado state area are okay. Stay safe.

A good day to stay indoors.
It looks like the winds will be a lot less when they hit here. They're predicting 20-40 mph winds with gusts up to 50 mph tomorrow. |
"Biking, hiking... He just loved anything outdoors,” Karen Baker-Jarvis said."
Winds of 100 mph are not unheard of coming down off the Flatirons into the Boulder area. Many years ago, it was common for house trailers/mobile homes to be turned over, until they passed tie-down ordinances. But, 120+ is, I think, very rare. |
Get that wind on your tail and you could break all sorts of personal bests!!

Didnt hear a thing about this on the network news. I guess if it doesnt happen in NY it isnt news!!!!!!
|
Gee, High winds where we left and -42F where we went! Can't win!
|
Denver those winds would be called a Category 3 hurricane coming off of the Gulf, here. Some serious wind damage will occur with that straight line speed. Those are downslope winds?

Glad you are OK. I won't complain about our 25MPH winds anymore.
|
I can't imagine winds like that. Be safe.
Maybe it will blow some of the goatheads away. ;) |
