Some cyclists shave their legs, some don't. What is the point in determining who does or doesn't? I know great cyclists who do and great cyclists who don't, bad who do and bad who don't so I tend not to judge that book in the parking lot. Give me 10 minutes on the road to determine whether or not they can ride.
Personally, I have always favored burly hairy men. |

Given my pokey slow average speed I guess I can give up shaving my legs. Though as a woman it is still looked at as rather hippy. :)
However, I do wonder why we still live in a society that wants women have long hair, yet be totally hairless on the rest of the body. I refuse to deal with the inconvenience and discomfort of long hair, so society can bite me! :p |
Never have never will. As far as dressing a wound and crashing? I've crashed twice in the 70,000+ miles I've put on the bike over the last 15 years. The crashes happened while doing 30 mph in the dirt, years apart. Never crashed on the road bike. Not sure why would I keep my legs shaved for 15 years to dress two wounds years apart? Heck, I just clipped the hair around the wound (that not scraped off by the crash ) then dressed the wound.
As far as impressing the ladies? I've played all type of ball over the years and I've always had women comment on my legs without shaving. I've been standing outside convenient stores during a ride and have had women walk up and say "wow you have nice legs"...don't need no stinkin' shaving.:p |
I try to think of the drag from my hairy legs as a form of resistance training. Every little bit helps.

I admit to shaving my legs for a couple of weeks once. I thought it felt different the first time or 2 I rode, but, I am relatively sure that was only mental.
If you like it, shave and dont worry about it. If you dont want to, dont worry about it. |
+1 for az_cyclist. Personally, I shave, I have nice legs, great muscularity and I am vein. I also feel it is part of the uniform.

While this isn't the usual way I photograph a person, I photographed this young cyclist's legs a few years ago, near Pt. Reyes National Seashore, in N. California, while conducting a photo workshop. I asked him why he shaved his legs. "One day, after a group ride, one of the women mentioned that she thought a man's shaved legs looked hot. So did the two women next to her. My next ride, my legs were shaved." |
It really helps if tan easily! I dont, which leaves me with white-ish legs......
