Cycling is a horrible addiction
So, I'm sitting at the bar in a restaurant last night for dinner, engrossed in an email I had just gotten about a cycling metabolic test and nutrition counseling session I'm setting up, when I hear a pretty loud "I said, concentrating really hard while you're eating can ruin your digestion". I look up, and say "what's that about digestion?" and the pretty waitress says, more softly "concentrating hard can ruin your digestion."
Me: "You were talking to me?" Her: "Yes, in fact I tried twice to talk to you, but couldn't get your attention. What are you concentrating on so hard?" Me: "Cycling. It's always cycling." And that was it... all chances of a more extended conversation destroyed my addiction Oh well. The fish and veggies were great. |
I'm a foodie, so I wouldn't be distracted by cycling when I'm at a restaruant. I'd be hypnotized by the wine list.

She wasn't right for you anyway...:)
|
What did she say? I was thinking about the new roadie I'll be getting near April.
|
But it is a healthy addiction.
|
I cant safely drive the roads I have cycled. My mind keeps drifting back to the ride and every little memory.
|
Perhaps more will power is needed? ;) :)

We think it's an expensive addiction too! :)

I might point out that if you have a cycling addiction, you end up healthy and have to endure that addiction for a very long time!!!!!
|
Right, well, I've been addicted to cycling for 44 years now and it doesn't seem to be letting up any time soon.
Yes rydabent, it is a healthy addiction (unless I crash). Yes gracehowler, it is an expensive addiction (even when I try to restrain myself!). I guess I might as well face it, I'm addicted to bikes (cycling). Rick / OCRR |
Maybe you should get tested for Low T. ;)

My addiction only goes back 3 years and its attraction is causing me to think seriously about retirement. I've got a good job, work out of my house and wish I had more time for cycling. Also, I just bought a new single even though most of my riding is on our tandem and I day dream about going off road on a mountain bike. I consider the single N+1/2, but who is counting.
Seriously, cycling arrested a 20 year decline in fitness, ever since I freed myself from my running addiction in my early 40's. It's really a pretty affordable addiction, but then we showed horses for 20 years which makes most other addictions look pretty affordable. |
My wife it getting tired of my comments on the percent grade of a certain road and how hard it was to get over in in the head wind.
|
in my almost 64 years I have learned that you: win some, BUT lose most. Also, hope springs eternal and that gals are like buses - there is always another one moving your way. Several gals have told me that they also think the same way about guys.
Hope springs eternal :thumb: :p Is contact the ultimate goal? :D What about bicycling? |
well my wife really does like to hear my "over the hill" stories.....doesn't she??

NOS,
Thank you so much, I'll read the review and summary and probably order it today with my regular weekly order. Appreciate the time sir! Bill |
Yup, in 1976. It is probably out of print. The essence of Bill Glasser's book is that some activities are addicting in a positive way (as in running/bicycling) while others are not (as in hard drugs/gambling).

Every time I go somewhere I gauge the roads to see how good they would be for cycling. It doesn't matter if I'm four states away, it's always wide/narrow/no shoulder, hot top/chip seal, rural/light/heavy traffic.....these things running through my mind.

Addiction? Last winter, while working on one of my indoor puttering/modification projects,my son saw me opening a box of parts.
He said: "More bike stuff?" The only response I could think of was:"I can quit whenever I want!" Marc |
