Eye Candy: Show Us The One That Got Away!

Here's a thread for posting pics of the bike you ALMOST had. The one you let get away. The one where you just couldn't pull the trigger - or pull it fast enough. The one you wished you'd bought but you decided something silly like paying rent was more important at the time. The one you found on Craigslist but were too late to purchase. You get the idea...

I have a friend who purchased a Bianchi 1985 Centerario limited edition in black nickel. He was starting a new business and wanted to sell it. I was reaching for the checkbook when I had second thoughts. I figured my student loan payments were more important. In hindsight I would gladly pay the penalty from the loan company to have that bike.

Zeroed in on a Campy-equipped Bianci at a bike swap a couple of years ago. Got to it a couple of seconds behind a women who bought it for $150.00.

Technically not "the one that got away"...The Allant diamond frame is black; the step-through a light olive/dark sage green. I *loved* the color, but really wanted the diamond frame (diamonds are a girl's best friend!), so I have The Black Pearl, and not Tully.

The P-15 was too expensive and I would have had to wait because the dealer was out of stock and orders were backed up.

Look at those poseurs! All the way from the hair to the sweater to the socks to the shoes. And this was 1970? They didn't go to a college near me, that's for sure!

I don't remember any details except it was a red Merckx and rode like a dream. It was only $800 in about 1986, but I decided I didn't deserve such a nice bike. When I look back at the speeds and distances I was riding back then, I feel I was wrong. I did actually go back to look one more time a week later, but it was gone. I suspect that if the shop owner had been in he would have convinced me to buy one, but he wasn't so I didn't. I sometimes wonder where it went off to. I was riding over 400 miles per week and never saw it, so I assume whoever bought it didn't live nearby.
