wow did this put me in a Pie State of mind.

"Stress Cannot exist in the presence of a pie."

This should be our motto here at 50+ from here on.

Tomorrow (2/18) a group of us are taking advantage of the unseasonable weather, and taking our act outside for a ride. Just so happens there is a planned lunch stop at a bakery-deli on the way back. I see pie in my future!!! Yaaay!!

KenSmith 02-18-12 04:31 PM

Darn, I will not be able to ride for a bit.... torn hip labrum... Can I still eat the pie if I bring the bike in the house**********

qcpmsame 02-18-12 04:34 PM

Pie has well known healing properties. Eat some while you look at the bike.

KenSmith 02-18-12 04:35 PM

I like the way you think Bill.

Thank you, I try to present a good image for the public!

No answers, just more questions.
Where can you get good pie near O'Fallon MO?
What's a labrum?

KenSmith 02-18-12 05:14 PM

Actually, the only place near O'Fallon would be my house... :) You know as well as I that good pie is hard to find out here.
The labrum is a ring of catilage around the hip or shoudler socket, effectively deepens the socket. I've got a pretty good tear in mine.
Thanks for asking RG.

Mannino's Market in Cottleville has pretty good pie but they don't have anyplace to eat it.
How's your range of motion? Can you put on your own sock without pain?

KenSmith 02-18-12 05:23 PM

Ive had steaks and bread from Mannino's but not there pie. I will have to try it out.
If Ive been on my feet all day, I actually have to pick my leg up with my hand to get in the truck.
Socks can be a pain (litterly) to put on.

rubic 02-18-12 05:52 PM

TD, I can certainly empathize with you and your pain, although it is my knee, not my hip. Good luck with your treatment. In honor of you, I shall have some pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It will be either cherry, apple or blackberry pie. I also love chocolate cream pie but it is actually within the realm of pudding, not pie, so forget about it.

Getting back to your torn hip labrum, I wish you the best with treatment and rehabilitation.

I can identify with that. I can get into and out of my Element without too much discomfort but putting on my left sock is my least favorite thing to do all day. At least I usually get it over with early in the day.

For the second Saturday in a row my ride stopped at Maebob's Diner in Irwinton, GA for a cup of coffee and a slice of sweet potato pie.

Man, BluesDawg, that photo has me salivating! Some nice, fresh, Southern sweet potato pie. That has to be a nice treat after a long ride!

By the way, since we are discussing the second favorite topic of the Fifty Plus subforum (after bicycling itself), I thought I would mention that Parade magazine, which appears in many Sunday newspapers, held a pie recipe contest late last year, and they have now posted the winning recipes online at: http://www.parade.com/pie . Some of the winners sound absolutely irresistible!

KenSmith 02-19-12 02:06 PM

Pumpkin is my favorite, and the recipe on parade.com looks very similar to the lovely and charming Mrs. Smith's recipe. will have to give it a try.

Oh, pie! I made an apple pie last week for my husband for Valentine's Day that was yummy. Maybe it's time to make another one.

Ooooh! Doesn't that look good.

qcpmsame 02-19-12 04:17 PM

Dang it Missjean, that looks so good right now. If I hadn't had a piece of cherry pie when I got home this afternoon I'd say I'll be right over!

I inherited a love for rhubarb pie from my dad....tastes like strawberries with a little earthy undertaste. But, for me, who cares what's under the crust.....it's PIE!

KenSmith....good wishes for your recovery. I went over the bars after a wheeltouch several months ago and put several cracks in my pelvis. Everyone else was racking up miles and I was logging lots of frustration. Time does pass.... just never fast enough...you'll be buring off pie calories soon enough! :thumb:

MissJean-- I haven't seen a homemade pie crust that pretty in a very, very long time!

KenSmith 02-19-12 06:32 PM

Thank you Velo. I appreciate the good wishes. cortizone shot tomorrow, we'll see how it goes.
