March in New England.
Who would believe that a non-cold weather rider would be out on the 7th of March in CT. It was windy but mid 50's. It has been a strange "off" season for us. I stopped on the ride to take this cell phone pic of an example of our tree damage from the winter storm of last fall. It was basically the only winter we had.

I was all set to go out today but the wind is howling here on Liberty Hill (Lebanon, CT) and it's starting to cool off. Might jump on my Ducati though. Where are you in CT?

We have 4 or 5 days a week like this--- but rarely at weekends.
Just over 3 weeks to go but who's Counting? |

… For me March is a drag because winter should be over, as it is further south, e.g. in Virginia and the Carolinas. Furthermore as an early morning rider in Boston, winter temperatures in March last an additional four weeks, no matter how nice the afternoons are.
My antidote to the late winter doldrums and to prepare for Spring is to get into an intensive training program of diet and cycling… |
A bit windy here in upstate NY, but other than that pretty much ideal weather with temps in the upper 50's. Got ~30 miles in, tho I'm feeling the the effects of the minimal amount of riding I did for the last 2 months. :notamused:
|
R.I. and the south coast of Mass. had the same weather as Connecticut. Temperature was in the low 50s F but very windy with good whitecaps everywhere I rode near water indicating 10-12 knots. It was such a gorgeous day I got sucked into riding a few more miles than I actually had in me.

The weather this winter has been very mild. I haven't hit the road as often as I would like, mostly due to other obligations, but I am hoping once the clocks change over the weekend it will be a little easier with more daylight!

Weather here has been pretty good to excellent this winter. Of course we need rain . . . didn't get much. It was 44 degrees F. when I rode to work this morning; looks like low 60's for the ride home.
Good to hear you've had a nice cycling winter back East and in the Midwest too! Rick / OCRR |
Looking forward to a little more daylight. Don't really know why I haven't ridden more this winter. I obviously could have been. I was talking to the guy at the lbs about a winter project I was working on because it was winter and I couldn't ride and he's like, "well most winters anyway" and I think I reallized it was just a psychological thing for me that I hadn't ridden more because I don't ride in the winter usually.

It was different before I retired. Even though it's nice this year at noon, it still gets colder fast for those who are just getting home from work after 3. Today's wind was enough to bite in some places.
|
We couldn't resist a ride today it was so nice. However the wind did come close to matching the temperature numbers.
It's all here |
Forty-five here today, but the north wind is distinctly unpleasant.
|
I managed to commute to work for all except a handfull-and-a-half days this winter. Yowza! I love it that the roads haven't been messed up with tons of grit. I hope we don't pay for this later in the year!

I'm not going anywhere on a bike on the open roads, can't get them out of the
cellar door. The snow is stacked up halfway up it. So on exercycle for another month. wpt |
From the thread title, I thought this was about a protest or something. Let's all March in New England!

It's already almost 50 at 6am but the wind is blowing hard. Hiking provides good exercise for the ankles and knees. There was a prediction on the weather this morning of near 80deg weather next week. |

Next door in Colchester. I probably ride within shouting distance of your home every now and then. Usually I leave the trail at Leonard Bridge road and go in a different direction though.

Wind is the curse of Spring riding at my house. I live on Liberty Hill and the wind seems constant in the early season.
|
Yeah still windy this morning but just wore a vest over my jersey so there is an improvement happening. Great winter for riding. Where I live the snow total for the season has been 2" but the DPW guys have been dropping sand/salt on the roads whenever they think it might freeze a puddle, must have to use a certain amount every season.
|
This morning's forecast is for temps in the mid-60's and wind gusts at 40+ mph!

For the skiers in New England, they has been much knashing of teeth and rending of clothes. For cyclists, the mild weather has been as perfect as could be hoped for. Fortunately me me, I do both.

Today's installment of March in New England,
Sunny and 65*! Woot! Too nice not to go for a ride. I took a walking/biking path not far from my house and as expected, ran into some snow. The snow starts right before the turn, but I only made it so far before I ran out of traction. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=240598 My poor road bike is thinking "I think you have me confused with your other bike!" http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=240599 |
