The delicate fingers of Spring...
...are tickling my Fancy!!
The crocus has bloomed, I wore shorts on my commute to work today, and the weather dude is threatening us with a week of temperatures in the 60's and 70's. This is quite shocking for mid-March, but I like it!! :):):) |
The Early Narcissus are out in the garden- The crocus are nearly over- And the first blooms opened on the magnolia burst its first couple of blooms toady-
Must be a few weeks in front of you. And it's not often I am in front of anyone nowadays. |
I ventured behind the cheddar curtain today where the temps were approaching 80. Really wishing I had a bike with me.
|
First sign of spring, snow shovels on sale....
Second sign of spring, a guy out on a motorcycle Third sign of spring, winter bike rebuild project, completed Fourth sign of spring, the temperature broke 20℃.... |
Heh. The frickin' cherry blossoms are blooming on the Tidal Basin, so it's as much as your life is worth to dodge the tourists along the Potomac for another month or so. I'll be heading the other way until all this spring blooming crap is over with ;)

Temps in the 60s in The GTA (Greater Toronto Area :D) in Canada for the weekend, all through next week. That means a happy, smiling Bri Guy. I will be riding in a new place (for me) on Saturday and I am stoked!
|
True all round. I rode home in shorts yesterday. Admittedly that was pushing it a little -- I was a little chilled when I got home -- but it was pdg (pretty damn good).
One good thing about my new commute: it starts with a short, and very, very vicious hill to get out of the (overheated) parking garage, so at least I'm warm when I start riding in the outside world. |

Oh man!
It's spring break this week so I've been off work. The weather has been in the 80's and sunny, perfect for riding. However, I'm waiting for my shorter crank to arrive and hopeing that will let me ride with no, or at least manageable, pain. Right now I'm waiting for my deck to dry enough that I can do a little more staining. My crank should come today, the weather forecast for next week is for more of the same, and I'm still going to be off work. How cool is that? |
For us riders it is beautiful!
|
I'm beginning to see wild flowers by the roadside - a cheery burst of color against a brown background. Except for a nice but short lived snowfall way back in October that created the winter wonderland skiers love, New England and especially southern New England, was too warm for good skiing but great for cycling. Beginning with the clubs traditional new year's day ride, I've been riding several times a week and am beginning to feel strong on the bike again.

Ah, these silly northerners. I think our crocuses have croaked already :). Trees in full bloom. Pollen everywhere.......uggh!

I hope some of those cherry blossoms are still blooming when I visit next month:)
On the WH tour, a dumb story from me. I was on the list for the WH tour in 2004 or so, but hadn't spent much time on the mall. Hadn't used the metro before either. I took the metro to the Smithsonian Station, and realized I was late for the tour, so I started to jog toward that big white building. Turned out I ended up at the Capitol instead of the White House. The guard at the gate looked at me like I had two heads when I asked him where the tour started... |

Yesterday, insted of my deck drying so that I could stain it, it rained, my crankset didn't come so I won't be able to ride until at least Tuesday, and Mizzou was ousted in the first round of the NCAAs. I hate it when I don't get my own way. |
Things are indeed starting to sprout and bloom around here.
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...M/IMG_0158.jpg Forsythia blooms early and is often targeted by frost or cold temps. Never a sure thing that we see forsythia blooms. Not a problem this year. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z.../IMG_0164B.jpg |
Today, it hit 76 in the Boston area! Yow! :thumb:
Could it possibly be? Are going to have an actual real spring this year, instead of a winter that hangs around until Memorial day? I cannot recall when we had a real spring last. Decades ago, it seems. |
OK, this is not supposed to happen. I'm in Winnipeg where the temperature hit 26c today. That's 79f!!!
More of the same tomorrow, but rain to go with it. Guy on the radio says this is a record. Yeah, no s**t. |
I went skiing on Saturday and took a bike ride Sunday in sandals, shorts and T shirt. This early onset summer is so weird.
|
If everyone else is having Spring weather, why was I riding in the snow today in an area that usually gets snow about two days a year?
Check back in July when we have highs around 80F with no humidity. |
Those fingers of Spring can be fickle. windy, temps upper 40's, snow in the hills at what looks like 2500' level. Ah, but soon all will be good.
