Ok I get it now :) But I think I am liberal, I don't wear mom jeans, the only grey hair I have is hidden by highlights, Oh and I had the colonoscopy. So I think I fit in, sort of.

That Pcad fellow almost never posts here. That's the biggest difference.

The diffference in this forum is that the participants don't think the only purpose of riding nice bikes is "racing". There's little or no talk about sprinting or climbing as goals in and of themselves, but rather, just as part of a ride. There's little or no talk about matching handlebar tape with frame lettering, the aesthetics of the way handlebars, stems, etc. are set up, the essential stiffness of drive train, frame and handlbars when sprinting, and nobody hardly ever so radically and helpfully points out that the cheapest way to shave weight is to loose body weight.
Most people here just love to ride, and most conversations are just about that. You won't hear anyone bragging that they passed some Poseur on a carbon fiber bike while cruising on their fixie or mountain bike, nor will they ever feel embarassed of their good equipment because they aren't "fast".... because we don't care - we don't care whether we are passed, and we are never racing on the bike path, no matter what that young guy thinks, so we could care less if some young guy on a piece of crap bike goes faster than us. Many of us love to own, work on and ride high end equipment , and just for what it is - nice equipment, not because of any delusion they actually go faster or feel any need to justify it on that basis. But many just like to ride whatever works and what we care to afford, and we all love to ride with both of those "categories" of folks because it's fun to ride with other people who love to ride. |

You must also practice the concept of n+1(when your wife lets you), and be a proud member of Club Tombay(and be willing to brag about it).

Those of us who are newer get fantastic advice on bike related questions from the old farts who have been at it forever. If you have decades of experience you have lots to contribute.

Whoa there, Nellie. I was 100% with you until you got there. There are few things I like more about cycling than passing other, younger riders. It's just that we don't get so bent out of shape when we get passed.

It's like moving from the airman's barracks to the NCO barracks. The people are usually more respectful, not nearly as much noise, it's cleaner and you don't have to pull latrine duty.

Most times there is a level of civility that comes with the maturity years bring. I would mark this as the most significant difference. There is generally a greater acceptance of a wider range of cycling interests that receives respect form most who frequent this particular forum.
It's where the grown-ups hang out. There are many excellent threads in the main 41 forum, but they're often peppered with smart-ass comments, spite, show-offs, and a lot of immaturity. |

It helps to have a white bike, as well.

I find it a nice place to relax for a while, especially if you don't have a television.:)

It's a live and let live kind of place. Respectful disagreements at worst.
The best part about the 50+ forum, is this age we forget most of what has been posted prior so it all seems like new conversation!!! |
