My New Avatar

This is my neighborhood friend Henry.

He has been riding 20 miles everyday for over 5 years. He gets up early and checks out the hood. Another ride after lunch and a final ride before dark.

Henry is 72 years old. Retired from NASA, working the same contractor job for 37 years.
Henry also served 4 years in The US Army.

Now sidelined to never return, in bed with pancreatic and stomach cancer.

Don't count him out yet. My 68 year old neighbor was diagnosed with cancer in almost every organ and responded to chemo and some new drugs. He is a retired teacher and a coach/referee. His life is still controled by his therapy, but he did a path ride with me recently and always comes by to use my tire pump.

Sounds like he must have been in NASA during the glory years, I'll bet he could tell us some stories.

We are all just passing through. Though there's a chance, we shouldn't count on getting out of here alive. My best wishes to Henry. I hope he has a smooth ride.

Sorry to hear about your friends cancer. I fought through two and still fighting one. I will do a ride today for Henry. I hope that the treatments that he receives will make him well again and back on his bike.

The being in his own home, with his wife there and expert hospice care is a real plus. My FIL had hospice home care last year when he passed away from extreme COPD, they made him very comfortable, at peace and helped my wife, her mother and her sister as well as my BIL and me deal with the long very stressful ordeal. Prayers for Henry, his wife and his caregivers will be continuous.

These fleeting charms of earth
Farewell, your springs of joy are dry
My soul now seeks another home
A brighter world on high

I'm a long time travelling here below
I'm a long time travelling away from home
I'm a long time travelling here below
To lay this body down

Farewell kind friends whose tender care
Has long engaged my love
Your fond embrace I now exchange
For better friends above

I'm a long time travelling here below
I'm a long time travelling away from home
I'm a long time travelling here below
To lay this body down...

I hope his wife is getting adequate support from the hospice. I was so fortunate to have an excellent hospice for my late wife.

10... my brother just went into hospice because of pancreatic cancer... it is good to focus in on the fun cool times and not dwell on the nastiness of disease. While all of you are saying prayers for Henry add one in for my baby brother Richard. He is only 49...
