Around here (east side of Atlanta) I can go as little as 2 blocks before I have to put a foot down because of traffic, traffic lights, etc.
Some sections of my ride I can go a whopping 1.5 miles (wow) before I have to put a foot down.
When we were in Florida in February and March, I could ride 10-15 miles without putting a foot down. Surprisingly my average speed when up dramatically.

On most days I can go upward to 42 miles without putting a foot down. I live half a mile from the Schuylkill River Trail. I can ride to one turn around point, with no need to dismount to the other and home without ever unclipping. On days when the road traffic is light at the western end, I can add another 20 miles before having to unclip.

Oppressive! They don't seem to give a hoot around here as long as you don't create a hazard in traffic. If there is a car around with anything like a right-of-way issue, I'll always stop. Otherwise mostly not... except maybe where there's a big intersection where it's a long way across.

As to the OP's question, I believe I went about 29 miles once without touching the ground. I don't think about it much since only moving time really properly counts in average speed calculations.

It's not something I find terribly important. Kinda like drops. And "clipless" pedals. And hunchback riding positions. And riding the same trail weekend after weekend after weekend. And hammerfesting. Meh.

Some Cateye's can be set up to run continuously rather than auto-stop. When I started riding brevets I change my Cateye Mity to operate that way - I think it's a choice during initial setup or after a hard reset.

I did do the last 64k of a ride last year without putting a foot down, although I did put a shoulder down in a low-speed crash Not sure if that counts.

Been reading about the ticket thing in your area. A city next to us is doing the same thing.

There's a traffic light two blocks from my house that is never green when I reach it. So my record is ~200 yards.

The OP either wears a catheter or he's a ringer in the 50+ forum.

I'm pushing 60 with a touch of BPH. 2 hours is my limit w/o a pee break, and less if I'm riding into the wind.

It's never occurred to me to consider this. I usually go off for a ride and never put a foot down 'til I'm done. Doesn't matter if it's 15 mi. or 50 mi.

Same thing in my area. In a way I cant blame them either. The car drivers don't know what to do when a cyclist comes to a stop sign or a red light. Figuring they are going to blow it. Not I!

I know every now and then I hit my 8 mile commute perfectly and don't have to stop at a light or cross walk. I love it when that happens.

I did the Davis Double and went the first 100 miles without dismounting, though I did foot-down a couple of times.

And I don't calculate average speed - I just look at my computer... it calcs based on riding time.
I do keep track of ride time vs total time on centuries, but that's more about minimizing wasted time at rest stops..
And for MTB rides, it's more about cleaning a technical section or a whole route, not about distance.
I'm with you kid.

Stand up on a downhill, hike the shorts on one leg, and go for it. That's the triathlon technique. And don't ride downwind and behind a female on a downhill. Which explains why I have a four minute transition time, or longer.

I never thought about it. . . until one day, I did it on my old 9-mile commute. Then, I tried to see if I could do it more often. Never 'punished' myself if I didn't, but it was a fun diversion to the limited number of alternate routes to that job location.

I've probably done it on longer rec rides, but I just don't know.

42 miles is the furthest I've gone yet on a bike and it also happens to be the longest distance I've gone without putting a foot down.

I think the real question should be "How far without peeing?". Just my thought.

According to weather for me. When it is hot I do not need to stop as often and can normally ride a metric century without a problem. Cannot make a full century. Also, I must add that there are just those days that none of this works out and I can barely make 30 miles. Getting old.

I take the opposite approach. I try not to go more than 25 miles without a stop to stretch the back. I lay on my back, cross one ankle over the other knee, and pull tight for 30 sec intervals. Feels fantastic.

The LEOs in our county have issued a definition of bicycle stopping: the cyclist must put the foot to the ground. If you track stand until the second coming and then take off, you're running the stop sign.

We have the wolf packs of Saturday cyclists to thank for this.

I've done about 30 miles, but where I live if that were my goal I could find routes that go a good bit longer. Rural area with a few stops signs but good visibility at most intersections.

The legend says that during a Touring Club of France 1902 bike trial, Mme. Marthe Hesse rode a 150 (either kilometers or miles, various accounts disagree) course including 12,000 feet of climbing without putting her foot down.

Never keep track of how far I can go without putting a foot down, but on my charity rides I stop at all the SAG stops. I keep track of total ride time on my HRM watch and ride time on my Cateye that stops tracking time when I'm not rolling.

Let me phrase it this way: Why do you consider it to be an achievement when you ride ____ distance without putting a foot down? What are you accomplishing?
