200 miles a day? Pah!
This year would be the 100th birthday of the man who averaged over 200 miles a day - for a YEAR!
It has been described as an "unbreakable" record. Link to article In 1939, Tommy Godwin rode 75,065 miles in a single year to set an endurance riding record that some believe will never be beaten. In fact, he kept on going until 14 May 1940, setting the record for the time taken to ride 100,000 miles. Born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1912, Godwin would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year. But unfortunately, Godwin's record is now largely forgotten. I know he wasn't 50+, but thought this was a good place to share. |
Outstanding story. Thanks for posting it.

So far I've only bicycled 300,000+ miles, but that is since the mid-1970s.
230,000+ miles of which is with my wife/stoker Kay on tandem(s) we've owned. I doff my cycling cap to Tommy G! Pedal on! Rudy and Kay/zonatandem |
