Did not happen to me, but a friend. We just started our ride and Rand dropped the front wheel into the space between the bars on the cattle guard. Then the forks turned sideways and stopped the bike. Rand was thrown forward and landed hard. We continued the ride, dropping off a steep hill. Rand hit a small bump and got airborn. The front wheel fell off, Rand hurt himself again. That time he made sure the quick release was secured.

Our club sponsered an April mtn bike race. For those who do not know, we would put out arrows to keep riders on the course. First race, we lost some riders, becasue we did not do a good job at path intersections. We also used arrows at dangerous places. There was a downhill that we used 3 groups of arrows pointing down on both sides of the track, each group had 3 arrowsfor a total of 18 arrows pointing down. We also had as least one person on each side of the approach. During the pre-race meeting we made sure everyone knew about the downhill. Each race, guys would ignore the arm wavers, the 18 signs and go over the edge at speed. And that was after a pre-race ride. We usually had at least one broken frame, plus bent wheels until we gave up and changed the course. We also had several complaints, becasue that hill was fun!!

I was showing off outside of ΑΦ Sorority, trackstanding, and slowly tipped over into the Rose Bushes. My evil plan worked well, though, because it attracted a bevy of Sorority Girls to help me untangle from the thorns and clean up the thorn wounds. :p Not bad for a dirty ol' middle aged hipster. :p

Tom, when was this? And did you live in the Acre?
