Taco Ride Video

Thursday night Taco Ride is an institution around here. I go a couple of times a year. I'll post Part 2 of the video later... it involves night riding.

Nice ride Don, thanks. It looks like a lot of people ride that trail.

Thanks George. We were out early (about 5:30 start) to beat the crowd. People were still going up the trail at about 9.00 PM when we were on the way back. Check back for part two of the video and you'll see that Margaritaville was standing room only when we rode back.

Surprised at the number of bike racks at the Beer stop. Then the number of Bikes for the Taco ride. Must be good taco's to attract that number of people.

Those racks were completely filled when we came back by there. The clearing in the woods, Margaritaville, is a major Thursday night destination for area drinkers with a cycling problem. The Mineola Steakhouse offers six tacos and a pitcher of beer for $10 and the place is packed. But lots of people just do the shorter ride to Margaritaville where they consume their own food and beverage. There's also a public charcoal grill that is well-used. The video of the ride back, forthcoming soon, will give you an idea of the event's popularity. Meanwhile here's a pic of the start of our ride home:

I don't think it's about the tacos, which are, in truth, nothing special.

Part 2: The Ride Back

A few tacos and beers, and we're off on the return ride. We did not stop at Margaritaville this time.

Thanks for sharing! I'll not venture out on Thursday evening anymore. Way too many drunks and amatures! Used to go way early and go to Silver City but I'm not sure there's anything open there anymore where a guy could eat.

Last summer we moved over to CB, IA and now I live 4/10th of a mile from the Wabash. I ride it and run it almost everyday except for when I use the road bike on the Lake Manawa Trails past the casinos and the Ped Bridge. The Wabash is a jewel!

Jim,
I've heard that someone has opened up a decent restaurant in Silver City that might make the extra few miles worth it. I've been meaning to check that out. I know what you mean about too many unskilled riders and excess alcohol. I rode over to the TR from downtown Omaha (in a ferrocious south headwind) but caught a ride back from the trailhead with my friends. I completely agree that the Wabash is better without the crowds, but the Taco Ride is fun to do with good friends now and then.
