Adding Ride Time
I'm 58 and just recently started a new job with normal hours for a change. I used to only ride on my off days for the most part. I never even considered commuting to work due to the length of my work days. I just want to say I took the plunge in commuting during Bike to Work Week here in Ohio and it's a good thing . It's great to be able to add miles each week and have some passion for going to work for a change:thumb: I really do believe it's fun. Of course the weather is good right now (middle of a drought actually) and things will change as the weather does. It's about 7.5 mi each way. Right now I only do it a couple of times a week, I hope to increase that. For all those that may be considering it but haven't tried commuting yet.... go for it , you may have a great time;)

Tried it, got the Tshirt. Trip in is pretty easy if I start early enough. Trip back is just begging for an accident. Wish it weren't so.

That's a good distance for a commute. Mine is 25 miles RT, and a couple of miles of it is on a freeway shoulder--there's no alternate route. It's legal and the bike lane is marked with paint, but you're right out there with the 70mph semis. All it would take is one second of inattention and you're stuck on the grill with the dead birds and June bugs. It's especially bad coming home uphill, because you can only do 10 or 12mph. If I could skip that part, I'd probably ride twice as often.

I started commuting by bike to work back in March just before the time change. I love my ride to work now, not that before it was bad but riding my bike makes it so much better. I am at the point where I would much rather ride my bike than take the motor vehicle even if it is raining. The unfortunate part is that winter will surely come and I will have to start taking the motor vehicle again. I leave for work at six am so riding in the winter dark up and down what may be icy hills is not what I consider a good or safe ride. My commute is 20 miles rt. I love that I have so much more bike time now without taking away any time from my life.
