Attack of the Tacks!

The Central Indiana Bicycle Association (CIBA) reports that they and other volunteers spent the weekend sweeping a segment of our local (and extremely popular) MUP with magnetic parking lot sweepers, in the wake of literally hundreds of flat tires last week. It seems some bright soul thought it would be entertaining to sprinkle part of the trail with carpet tacks.

I guess that just goes to show you that some folks are truly anything but as sharp as a tack. What a foolish thing to do. But as Ben Franklin said: "We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid."

Good thing they weren't brass tacks, you'd have had to clean them up by hand...

Wow, that's just dumb.

It's a pretty adolescent trick. Someone did the same thing on RAGBRAI in 2008. There were hundreds of flats that day, including me. I had not one but two holes in my tube. Someone did it two years in a row on DALMAC, in the same location/ The second year, someone spotted him doing it got his license number, and turned it over to the local police. no problems since then.

They say theres one born every minute

It's a big problem when someone does this out on the MTB trails, because they just about have to clean it up by hand. It's happened here a couple of times in the past ten years.

Ditto on Ride the Rockies - 1999 - I made it through OK, but lots of folks didn't.

What a bunch, or a single, ass.:notamused: Makes you want to find them and put some Atomic Balm in their jock.:twitchy: We had fits in NW Florida after the hurricanes in 2004 and 2005 with roofing tacks. They were everywhere. Our company's trucks had an average of 2 flats per week during this period. Urrrggghhh.

On MUP. They can't even offer the excuse that the bicyclists were impeding auto traffic.

There are just some things that deserve a thorough a$$ kicking.

Carpet tacks? Where do you even buy carpet tacks anymore?

Suddenly it makes sense to me. Some misguided jerks somehow found a supply of carpet tacks and couldn't think of anything else to do with them.
