One Helluva Ride
A bunch of us went to this ride in Ann Arbor for the 50+ get together last year. Is anybody going again. I probably won't be around on Friday this year but certainly wouldn't mind getting together before or for lunch afterwards.

We plan on going to the OHR this year.
|
Marc, Mrs. RF and I are planning to ride it this year, as well. Our big plans for the year are not panning out as we hoped (not enough biking!), so we would do either the 40 or so or just possibly the 65. A get-together before or afterwards is a great idea. I expect to be working on Friday.

A post-picnic at Chez RF is possible as well, depending on interest.

Sounds good to me, we'll see who's around and when.
Marc Irwin and Freedomrider, when would you arrive in the Ann Arbor/Chelsea area, and where are you planning to sleep? |

Will you be cycling out from Kzoo this time? I'm pretty sure Freedom and fam will be in the van. The RF's would drive to Chelsea and then drive to wherever we will meet up. My training this year is not what I hoped it would be.

We will also be coming to OHR on sat. morning, and doing the 39 mile route. The ride provides donuts and coffee at the start of the ride then theirs a lunch and at the end ice cold watermellon. Also many people gather in the parking area for post ride get togethers.

One Helluva Ride 'n' Tailgate!

I plan on being there, too (weather permitting.) I think I aimed for the 75-mile route last year, but a minor detour made it more like 90 miles! My problem is, no matter how fast I ride, those guys who do the 39 mile route are done and gone before I have a chance to finish.

Wife this year is pushing me to start around 8 am. |
Hey, I might just make it down for this one. I had a major cycling event in June and am doing the Shoreline West (3-day) in August, but that weekend looks clear this year since I'm not doing the Michigander.
But, not being a regular poster here and not having met any of you before, how can the "get together" be accomplished? I'll be coming down on my own and would appreciate some company for the ride (probably the 64 unless the weather stays like it is today!). ETA: I can ride @18mph on the flats but usually average more like 16 on a long route. |
Ok, we can coordinate two ways: meet at teh start and start out together, with early finishers agreeing to wait, then we either crash in somebody's van, or go to a place with A/C together. Or, we set a time and place to meet off-the-fairgounds site after the finish.
Or as Freedomrider suggested, just hang around at the finish until all have come in, and have a chat and make a plan. You're all headed home Saturday afternoon, so it isn't feasible to have you over to my house, since I live 25 or so miles away from the start/finish, in Ann Arbor. |
Meeting at the start sounds good. I'll be riding the 64mile route, and probably average around 15 miles per on that terrain. It sounds like a good day, are we looking at an early start, it will be better this time of year, I am up for anything convenient after the ride.

What time would most of you be arriving/starting? I have a 1.5-hour drive to get there, so would have to leave here at 5:30 to get to registration by 7AM. On the other hand, there's no use getting to the lunch spot before they open at 10AM, and I think for the 64-mile route it's at the 38 mile point, so ~3 hours riding assuming at least one sag stop.

8 sounds good to us;)

Good for me, too!

I'll try to be there for an 8:00 start, but probably won't be riding with any of you. Last year my average through the first rest stop was something like 23 mph. I think I'll be wearing my blue-and-orange BikeJournal.com jersey. My lowracer is not on the road yet this year, so I'll be on the same M5 Carbon Highracer I rode last year. It's hard to miss:
