Is This Normal?

I picked up my new Sectour Elite Saturday and it's a thrill to ride. My wife sees the bike and immediately points
to my handlebars, " What's that?"
I tell her it's the plastic wrapping covering the WHITE handlebar tape.
" Oh, uh, that's got to come off," she insists.
I tell her I don't want to remove the plastic because I don't want to dirty the WHITE bar tape. It looks so pretty.
" No, no, you can't be serious? " " You're kidding me, right?"
" I am serious. I'm going to leave it as long as it's feasible."
And then it comes," There's something wrong with you." " Remove that plastic right now!" " Are you some kind of
nut?" " Are you a dweeb?" " I'm gonna take it off......" "' Don't you dare touch it!"
So, what's the verdict--off with the wrap or leave it alone and , is there something wrong with me?

Remove the tape, please. Dweeb does not begin to describe this one. You'll thank her later.

Welcome to BF and 50+ and especially thanks for bringing this important dilemma to our attention.
Listen to the wise advice found here.

Don't forget to remove any stickers that may be on your wheels. Ask your SO first, of course.

I suspect that it will come off very quickly on it's own. It's not a problem either way.

Most bar tape can be easily cleaned. Picking gravel out of your hide from the accident caused by you hands slipping off the bars is a bit more difficult

Fred,
And that must be your real name - if you want to protect your image, keep the plastic wrap on.

Take it off, clean the bar tape when it gets dirty. Several videos on cleaning bar tape on you tube.

Take the covering off quickly, if you haven't already. And be very thankful for having such a wonderful wife.

And take to the clear plastic cover off your couch while you're at it.

The best way to protect white handlebar tape is to cover it with black handlebar tape.

Depending on your nature, there are two ways to approach white handlebar tape. Both require removing the clear covering first.

Option 1:
1) Ride bike
2) Clean bike
3) Repeat

Option 2:
1) Ride bike
2) Repeat

I'm going to guess you're an option 1 kind of guy.

Remove plastic. Compliment wife on her cycling insight. Collect resulting brownie points from wife for when N+1 occurs.

White Tape? Best thing for that is a tin of black paint

And no pics as of yet- Hopefully it has already been posted in the N+1 thread.
