101 In the Shade and No Shade
 

That was my mentor's favorite saying when it got hot in the summer. Today in Iowa we hit 100f for the first time since 2006. The heat index is about 105-110! It is oppressive outside. I just stepped out of my shop and the blast furnace was full on. This commute home is going to suck on so many levels. Good thing there are two bars along that way I can stop in and grab a cold one. One right after one of the two big climbs and the right before the other :lol:

I wonder how long my jersey will stay wet after I soak it in the sink and start home? Any bets?

Have ridden in 117 degrees with 2% humidity.
Wet my cycling cap and bandana; bone dry in minutes!
Have also ridden in 98 degrees with 98% humidity in Maryland.
Gimme that dry heat!!!

101 at the start of today's after-work ride in northwest AR, around 98 at the start of yesterday's ride, and 101 at the start of Monday's ride.

I didn't realize that it got that hot up in Iowa. I learned something new today:)

From a cycling perspective, I'll take the heat over -10 and ice and snow.

Yeah, many people don't understand that heat and humidity are two different things.

I used to live near Palm Springs. Heat, that's when you can't take the keys out of your pocket for fear of burning your fingers. I actually enjoy 107 degrees dry heat. My body slows down and relaxes to keep itself cool.

96 degrees and 2% humidity is barely warm. 96 degrees and 96% humidity is outrageous discomfort.

Many people think that when you are dripping sweat that's cooling the body. Not really. When you get into desert heat where the perspiration is gone almost immediately, that's sweat cooling the body. Adiabatic cooling baby! Dripping sweat is like an overworked swamp cooler struggling with the load.

Here on the Gulf coast low humidity is less than 60%. We usually stay around the 75%-85% range and its normal in the summer for 90%-100% to stick around all day. We are supposed to have heat indexes in the 110-115 range this weekend.

It was 100F here yesterday with 60%+ average humidity (103F the day before, 100+ since Monday). Plenty warm enough, but it's still early in the summer and there's much more to come. Just wait a month or two... :-(

Whee. We are going to hit 107 today, at least. At least the drought will make it a dry, crop killing, flammable kindling drying, fireworks cancelling heat. :p

On the bright side, the clear sky and dry air means it's an easy come, easy go heat, so the mornings will still be quite comfortable for riding.

I really don't mind riding in the heat. The nice thing about biking is you always have a breeze. As I've gotten older the heat makes it easier on my joints and muscles as well. I just make sure to drink a lot and pay attention to my body. One thing Michigan has going for it is the Great Lakes moderate our temperatures. It's been 24 years since we've seen 100.

We get serious heat up here also. I don't remember exceeding 100 in my youth, but lately it happens a lot. I've even been at 107 in North Dakota.

My morning ride in Chicago today provided a max temp of 107f with an average of 93f.

I took it slow, but still got in 31 miles.

I just checked the weather applet on my computer:

Windchill: 94 °F

I think that's the first time I've seen a wind "chill" higher than the ambient temperature!

Next few days here: 101, 104, 103, 102, 100, 99, 97. Hey it's summer. It's supposed to be hot.

The heat index is the same here in NW Illonois. No wind today made it a very hot ride. I plan on a very early start for to or rows ride.

Heh! I rode this evening. It was 104 outside, and as for the breeze? It felt like someone was blowing a hair dryer on my face, with the heat set on high! :) That's a breeze I can do without...

Interesting. Just relocated from CO to CA and 110 in Sacramento area feels maybe like 90 in Denver. But what I can't figure out is why I'm feeling warm. The apt will show temps of 75 and it feels "very warm", open the patio door, no change in temp, [less than .5 degrees], and it feels ok. I don't know what to check: dewpoint, pressure or what. It's not just temp and humidity.

Could it be the altitude? You're much closer to sea level now...

I rode today in a heat index of 100+ and I feel like crap.

I rode 33 hilly miles in 105 degree heat today in Alabama. Not really bad until you stop then it's hell to pay. My sister says I'm crazy. She may be right but, hey, I'm having fun. How many people in this country look for reasons to be miserable?

Its supposed to hit 99 on the coast today so our inland temps should be around 101-107 not taking the heat index into account. High humidity here so I expect around 105-115 heat index numbers when I ride. it is a 2 water bottle day for me.
Lots of pre-ride hydration to do right now while watching the TDF.

Today, cloudy, muggy, thunderstorms in Oregon. But our last day of winter usually July 4, first day of summer is July 5....

Bill, I don't know what part of Florida you are in, but here in Okeechobee we had about 92 degrees with 50% humidity. I got some new tires for my Bacchetta today, so I took it for a short ride around 6pm. Temp was 92, with a breeze from the SW at 2-3. It was hot, but not so you couldn't ride for 10-12 miles like I did and still have a good time... Glad I don't live in the part of Florida where it's getting so hot, but I have to tell you, you can't get much further 'inland' than Okeechobee, we are right in the center of the state down here...

I am in far Northwest Florida, Escambia County, (Pensacola) about 2 miles off of the Alabama state line at the Perdido and Styx Rivers junction. Got to 96 here today but the clouds stuck around and kept us out of the triple digits. Humidity was around 70% most of the day according to my cheapo gauge. it was 93 when I rode at 5:30 P.M. but the slight south breeze off of the Gulf kept it nice while I rode. I did make sure I hydrated all day before I rode and I did pretty well while riding.
