The bells
Finally found a use for the bell on the bike.
The UK will have a Nationwide bell ringing for 3 minutes from 8;12 BST. http://www.allthebells.com/home/ Web site took some time to load so if you feel like annoying your neighbours- join us. No idea why or the reasoning behind it but have one bike with a bell so will cycle down the town for 8;12 and see how many other nutters are joining in. |
Don't forget your whistle, that way you can have all the bells and whistle. :)

Went down the town for 8am and no-one there except a few old codgers having breakfast outside at a cafe. The church bells were already being rung but they stopped after a few minutes to restart at 8 12. Felt an idiot but rang the bell on the bike only to be informed that I was annoying the people having a peaceful breakfast. Other bikes came along the high street and not one ding did I hear.
And I think it must have been the second or third team of campanologists at the church because it sounded a but rough. That's the problem with the british- never manage to rise to the occasion- but it was a success in the rest of the UK. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-19001529 And part way down the page--look at Jeremy Hunt's clanger and on the main vid--Vintage bike content at about 1 minute 20 seconds. |
That would have been 2:12 in the morning here, and I would have had to ride to England, Arkansas (pop 2,864). So I had to pass.
|
Could still have got up and participated. And annoyed the neighbours at the same time.:innocent:

National Public Radio news played the 40 rings of Big Ben on the 1100 CDT news broadcast. No bell but I did honk my truck's horn. Cows now think I am just another dumb human.

You were a bit early |
And by the way-I am all olympiced out after the 2nd day. Only the TT and track racing to go.

I thought it unusual to be 12 hours early but that was the time it was planned for.
I suppose people would have had other things to do in the evening., http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19011790 |
"At 08.12 on Friday morning, thousands of bells all over the UK rang for three minutes as part of an art project to mark the start of the Olympic Games.", BBC website, 27 July 2012.
This is what I thought I had read. I'd hate to have those cows looking at their watches and copies of the Times of London and smirking at the dumb human honking his horn. Bill |
