Perfect! I'd have to drink too when using a trainer.

I prefer the kind of trainer that can be folded up and put in a closet ............... and left there.
I truly hate my trainer. It compresses the worst of cycling into each event without any of the fun of going anywhere. That said, living in New England requires that I use it at least a little in the winter to stay in shape. To minimize the time spent on the evil machine I set the gearing to kill and ride hard till I can barely walk. |
FWIW, I just bought a Kinetic Road Machine to replace the Blackburn Ultra I have. It's not that I like riding on a trainer, but I have a major event coming up in March, and will be spending a lot of time on the trainer between now and then. It's bad enough working through the boredom on a trainer; working through boredom compounded by frustration with something that doesn't work correctly is something I'm too old to be willing to deal with.
Had to pass up a sweet deal on a frameset that I wanted to be able to afford the trainer. I've got four good road bikes plus the commuter, so I'll live. ;) |

Look at the 1Up trainer. It is quiet and folds flat.

+1...and built like a tank with a liftime warranty on the resistance unit. It's a sweet trainer!

I have one of those too collecting dust in a corner. It's a pretty blue color.

I have a nice Star-Trac treadmill that I don't use so much anymore (running hurts the back), so I build a small rear extension platform for it and set up a bike and trainer. Nice double use of the space. As boring as treadmill running felt (once trained for a marathon 80% on the trainer), it seems like bike trainers are even more boring.
BUT, hill training was a bit easier on this thing. I would crank up the resistance and gearing so that I was doing aggressive, stand-up pedalling. Two minutes standing, one minute sitting repeates for extended sessions really improved my hill climbing for the subsequent summer season. A friend has recommended a Kurt Kinetic fluid to replace my cheapo Nashbar trainer. Am considering. |

I have a Kurt Kinetic Rock n Road fluid trainer I bought last year. I'll let you know how I like it when I open the box and set it up. lol I traded my computrainer for it. That about sums up my feelings for trainers.

The CT is now gone. Never have had or tried rollers though they might replace the boredom issue with some pucker factor.
