Seagull Century in Salisbury MD next Saturday

Anyone riding the Seagull this weekend? I'm trying to get a new rider (wife's coworker) to go with me on the metric century. I built a Cannondale 3.0 for him.
If he doesn't attend I have spare Friday dinner and Saturday breakfast tickets.

I'll be there.

I've registered for the Assateague ride, rather than the Snow Hill. So if you flash by rider number 2063, wave hello before you disappear into the distance.

Did the Frederick Pedalers' Fall Century this weekend - my 8th century for the year, managed an okay pace (17.2mph : http://app.strava.com/rides/23513658 ) - it was great weather for a long ride! I hope the Eastern Shore will be similar, and not too windy.

Edit:
(I've just decided that I'll wear my Fifty+ jersey)

I will also be there riding the Assateague century. I've been wanting to ride this event for a few years but always ended up with a conflict. Looking forward to this one and will be staying in Chincoteague.....and eating lots of Flounder.

I'll be there this weekend also. This will be my 5th time doing it, first time on a hybrid and that made me upgrade. Now doing it on a Trek 2.1. Older brother coming up from FL and we will be riding together. I challenged him to ride it with me this year. He upgraded from a hybrid to a road bike and has been training for it. He's 56 and has had heart problems including bypass couple of years ago. We'll be doing it at a nice easy pace. This will be his first century.

Rode it last year. Very nice ride. Hope it isn't windy for you :)

REMINDER - Wear your 50+ jersey if you have one.

I'll be wearing mine.

Finished it at a decent pace: http://app.strava.com/rides/24195258

Nice pace! If that Assateque bridge wasn't there you might have done 50 feet elevation in a hundred miles.

DGlenday 10-06-12 07:17 PM

LOL - that bridge was the only "hill" on the ride. It was a nice change from the hills where I live. Bugt the headwind was tough.

DGlenday - was that in a group or solo... either way its still impressive, just even more so if solo...Which is to say, could we talk you in to doing a ride report?

:cheers::beer:

Nicely done...that's impressive.

I did not see any 50+ jerseys so they must be sill quite rare. I wore the jersey last year for the 100 mile. That was 25 lbs ago - and it would have been too tight. This year the 100 kilometer was harder even without the killer wind. I had a new rider with me who would not draft so we worked harder to complete the ride. The weather was the best I've encountered at the Seagull.

I wore my jersey. At the Assateague Island turn-around point a few people commented on it, and mentioned that they'd seen a few of these jerseys at other events and wondered what they were all about.

(I told them you have to qualify to wear this jersey )

They seemed to understand that it had something to do with being over 50, though.

I thought it was a great ride and event. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The wind coming back from Assateague was a b*t*h. I forgot to look for 50+ jerseys but, finding one would have been like finding a needle in a haystack. The sheer number of riders was overwhelming. We could not have asked for better weather....the wind notwithstanding. And I guess we should not complain about it since from what I heard, last year it was much worse. A lot of volunteer support people, port-a-johns everywhere, good rest stops and an outstanding lunch with soft drinks and beer. I give it very high marks for organization and execution. There was very little traffic all things considered, and I suspect it was because the locals knew of this event and many stayed off the route roads.

Damn, you were moving it up!

I see you started about 20 minutes before me (I had a flat on the start line) so you would have been just ahead of me all the way. Going at your and my pace, it might have been fun to ride together.

(On a note o0f less relevance - it's interesting that your total elevation gain was reported at 843 ft, while mine was 117. And Your calories consumed were 6,337, and mine were 3,780.)

I did not wear my HRM so this data is not accurate. I pay no attention to it. If I had worn the HRM, it would have been more more accurate. Given my past experience with a power tap, I suspect my calories would have been on the order of 3K. With regards to elevation, I believe my Garmin is accurate. Its a flat route, but there is definitely more than 117 feet. You will get almost that from just going over and back on the Assateague bridge. I have confidence the 843' figure is relatively accurate - give or take. Of course over the course of 100 miles, 800' is still considered a very flat route.
