A Gem in Southwest Wisconsin
Found a great touring spot insouthwest Wisconsin, part of the Midwest’s driftless region. The rolling hillsrange from gentle to challenging, and there’s also the 45-mile Military RidgeTrail between Fitchburg and Dodgeville. One of the unique lodging establishments in the area is Wisconsin’s oldest inn, theWalker House in Mineral Point (www.thewalkerhouse.org). The owners supply a hearty complimentarybreakfast and space and tools for bike repairs. They’ll give you a room discount if you tell them you’re touring.

Asteckly,
What towns are in the area you are referring to? Barrettscv and I posted (with lots of pictures) about riding in that area in October I think it was, riding from Dodgeville. And we may do a May or June ride up there for anyone who wants to attend. Is the trail you refer to the one that goes west out of Madison?
Inquiring minds want to know... and we love pictures.

The trail west out of Madison through Mt Horeb to Dodgeville is Military Ridge. If you get to Mt Horeb be sure to stop at The Grumpy Troll for at least a beer.
The Cheese Country Trail heads south from Dodgeville through Mineral Point, finally heading east and ending in Monroe where it joins the Badger State Trail/Sugar River Trail north to New Glarus and Madison, and south into IL on the Jane Adams into Freeport, IL.
Mineral Point on the Cheese Country is beautiful and very hilly. If I was going there by trail I'd want to use a MTB, or get there by heading south out of Dodgeville. Last year parts of the Cheese Country Trail were pretty roughed up from ATV traffic.
